Real talk.

They signed a ton of young free agents hoping to find diamonds in the rough.

It looks as though they hit on some (Ball, Blackmon, Marks, Harbor) missed on others (Hayes, Miller)

As long as they hit more than they miss, we'll be in good shape.

But this hand wringing over departed average players is lame.
Quote:hell yes, had Gene made better selection in 2011 and 2012 we'd be in the drivers seat of the division. Let's stop pretending going 0-16 is the only way to build a roster.

Who said it was?
Quote:I'm picking Marks.

We let Knighton walk and signed a bunch of DTs.

Why is Miller the only one being judged?
Why not say which two of the three? Since we signed two which two would you take?
Quote:Who said it was?
Every person who is bashing me for wishing we had a few better players to help us win one game.

We didn't need to let them go in the first place. Their deals were all so cheap we could have signed Jones, Marks, Smith, Hayes, Miller, and Knighton and not made a dent in the teams budget. If we had Smith and Hayes, Marks and Knighton, and Jones we would be a better team than we are now. End of story.
Quote:Knighton is being compared because he was replaced by Miller, who plays the same role as him as a run plugging DT, for roughly the same amount.

If you can have a combination of Marks/Miller or Marks/Knighton which combo would you pick?

Or do we continue the tap dance?
Thank you! Someone who is understanding this! I feel like all I am doing is pointing out what should be logically obvious, and people are going crazy over it.

It's like these people think that the first overall pick every year goes to an 0-16 team! We are historically bad. Not just the worst this year, but possibly the worst ever.

They don't seem to understand I don't want us to be 8-8 this year, I know it's a rebuild. But I really don't want to be 0-16. 1-15, 2-14, those records get us a couple wins to cheer about and the first overall pick. What is so wrong with that? Why do people think we have to lose every game just to make sure we really do get it?
Quote:Pretty much a summary of what many have been saying. The moves made where lateral at best, backwards in some positions, if we can leap forward next offseason no harm no foul.

However going backwards from LAST year is going to make it difficult and require an almost perfect offseason and draft to show improvement.

My biggest gripe has and still remains this simple fact, coming into this rebuild we had immediate needs at the following positions:

QB, OG, C, DE, CB, RT

After year 1 of this rebuild we now have immediate needs at;

QB, OG, C, DE, RT, OLB, RB, TE, FB

so basically we took care of the CB position (assuming Gratz develops and Blackmon sticks around) but created holes at OLB and FB while we naturally had needs develop at RB and TE.
See this man understands what has been done here. Why is this so hard to grasp for some people?

half the board's pimping this notion of a step back to leap forward, where have you been? I'll take the steady march of progress every year over the retreat into pure suck we've embarked upon this year.

I don't recall anybody saying "going 0-16 is the only way to build a roster".
1.Greg Jones chose Houston over Jax. He wasn't coming back.

2.Knighton was a back up DT. Why would Caldwell want to re-sign him?

3.Smith was coming of a season where he only played 2 games due to injury. In those games, he wasn't good.

Caldwell & Bradley had no ties to these players and maybe they thought they could get equal or better play for lesser pay?

Show me one who said it.

Nobody.

Eric gets confused when you say the team needed to gut the roster and begin the rebuilding process quickly, which is a different approach to how we've seen it done here previously.  He can't get out of the old mindset, so when you say you have to take a step back in order to leap forward, all he thinks about is the W-L record.  There's a lot more to it than that, but apparently he thinks people are saying the only way to build the roster is to go 0-16.  He's a deep thinker.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

Laughing you've got half this board in the tank for teddy mode and you're hung up on no one coming out and saying the exact phrase.

whatever man keep on trying, either you're on board with the notion of getting worse to get better ( ie the whole blow it up thing, thus the probability of 0-16) or you're on board with building as you go.
Quote:Every person who is bashing me for wishing we had a few better players to help us win one game.

But the players you listed wouldn't be classified as a few better players than the guys they were replaced by.  Not so significantly that it would make a bit of difference to the W-L record.  People are bashing you because you're whining about marginal talent as if we lost a flock of perennial pro bowlers.

Keep clinging. Derek Cox must have waved at you one day or something.

2012 Jaguars.

Blow it up. They're terrible!!!

2013 Jaguars.

Why'd they blow it up?!?

Baffles me to no end...

You're the one that brought the phrase into the conversation. Not me.

This coming from the guy who repeatedly called this the right direction before the season.

My gripes not the record, it's the lack or progress from this roster, I've said that over and over, but it doesn't fit the narrative you're trying to paint.
