I could see him being a wrestler. He's athletic enough to pull it off. There has been a lot of success for former football players turned wrestlers.

I'm not sure you understand the rules. The NFL could use that block as a model for aggressive blocking within the rules. MJD could have taken Merriman's knee's out like Jamaal Charles did to Cushing (which was a legal block), instead Maurice loaded up his shoulder (without launching, or leaving his feet) and stuck it right into the middle of Merriman's chest.
I can see why you would think that. The NFL does seem to be aggresively tightening, enforcing, and making rules that focus on unnecessary, and or avoidable hits (especially to the head). I don't think MJD's block would have drew a penalty at all, and would show proof that aggresive play, or big hits aren't the target of the rules the League is focusing on.
