Do you realize how much trash you just threw out there and 2 special teams players that don't matter at all? All of those guys can't hold a candle to Taylor, Smith, Stroud and Henderson.
Quote:The top 4 need to go along with Gabbert!
According to the chart Gabbert's cap number is the same as his dead money number. Sucks.

Nobody said they did.

We would save 2 mil.

Quote:Reggie Heyward was good for a few years for us until he started getting injured.

Your correct he was pretty good there for a bit.  But man oh man what a deficit in production we have had from the DE position.  Makes me wonder if we really should have transitioned to a different defense.  Boy ho boy those were some heck of a lot of Ask Vic questions on 3-4 and 4-3

Adam Podlesh...lol.

Really?? Thats a lot of poop up there.

Quote:Interesting thought, but I doubt this team would be much if any better off with Lee. People would likely be still complaining that we didn't draft Earl Thomas or over rated JPP.

They should have drafted Earl Thomas.

I agree. Things could actually be considerably different had we drafted Thomas.

Every time I think about Gene picking Alualu over Thomas, I get upset.

Really upset. Please... Spare me... It's the single most cringe worthy move he has made this side of drafting a punter in the 3rd round  Sick
I wanted Thomas and Safety was our biggest need at the time and the best player on the board.  I still don't get why Gene went with Alu who most people had as a 2nd round talent.  I guess the same reason he took a punter in the 3rd.

Jimmy Graham and Mack? Draft Teddy spend the rest of the draft on LEO...or trade up for Barr
Quote:Q - would those same Jags have made the playoffs had Shack not inherited top talent like Fred Taylor, Jimmy Smith, Henderson, Stroud, Naeole, et al.

Gene Smith inherited MoJo & ....

Yet,  in Tom Coughlin's final season,   the Jaguars went 6-10.    A season that Coughlin got more out of the overall talent on the Jaguars roster than anyone could have realistically hoped for.      In 2003,   even JDR complimented Coughlin for his coaching job in 2002.
Today's Ozone made me think. I forgot about the draft being in May. There is a good chance we do nothing in free agency next year. Unfortunately no matter who we draft next year is going to be half as bad as this year. Reading the response today where O responds we might not see improvement on the field this year produces an awful gut feeling.  To suggest that the Coaches and Front Office will see "it" on the tapes sure is a poor treatment of the fans eyes and intelligence.  Granted fans are emotional and not experts but we have access to NFL rewind these days.

Yikes sure is disheartening to think next year could be horrendous on the field.

that's a load of turds there is NO REASON this time HAS to be crap next year. I don't care if they're already trying to prime the fan base for another year of 20 preseason games, 2 complete offseasons and this team SHOULD be able to at least sniff .500 anyone willing to accept this for a second year is crazy.

There is no way Jimmy Graham makes it to FA, I'm assuming this is sarcasm.

The Saints will move money whether it's restructuring contracts or cutting a guy like Marques Colston (who's been unproductive) before letting JG walk. I do like the idea of Mack, if he makes it to FA he'll be a target.
Shack's biggest contribution to the Jags were the following:

1) Getting rid of Brunell (Skins) & Boselli's (Texans) contracts.  These 2 contracts could have set us back a lot earlier.

2) MJD

I would have been OK with Alualu had we traded back to #25 where everyone had him forecasted.  I got banned from this board the night of that draft.

The 4 players you mentioned are amongst the best players in Jaguars history.    Having said that,   doesn't Rashaen Mathis belong in that class as well?        How many CB's in the previous decade were better than Rashean Mathis?       Champ Bailey,   Charles Woodson,  and Darrelle Revis come to mind but not by much.     Off the top of my head,  no other CB jumps out in the last decade,  when comparing him to Mathis.

IMO,   the Shack and Jack regime made more than their share of personnel mistakes but got tremendous value from three 2nd Round picks:       Rashean Mathis,   Daryl Smith,  and MJD.    The fact that Mathis and Smith are still making winning level contributions to their respective team,   despite being in the NFL for over a decade,   speaks volumes about them as players.
