Full Version: The losses are my dads fault - sort of

On September 5th I went on to facebook to remind my family and tell my friends that the 1st regular season football game would be played that night. I explained that I was saddened that it was also the first time I would be watching the season without arm chair quarter backing with my dad. He had passed suddenly from pancreatic cancer in February. We had not always seen eye to eye but football was something that brought us together. We both loved it. We would call and taunt each other before the season started each year. He was a faithful Tampa Bay Bucs fan and I bleed Jacksonville Jaguars teal. Every year when the Jaguars played the Bucs we would bet a bottle of Crown Royale. If they were not scheduled to play each other - whichever team won first was the winner. If both teams won, whoever had the highest score was the winner. Last year I went on the Crown Royal website and they let you print up labels for the bottle. I printed one that said Jags Vs Bucs - JAGS WIN!!!

Well as pained fans know, not only did they not win but both teams continue to lose week after heart-wrenching week. My brother Jon said upon week two, that he would step up and cover my dad’s side of the bet. My mom said upon week four it was no longer a bet but a curse.

Today is October 27th. The Bucs lost their 7th game in a row on Thursday night. The Jaguars played San Francisco in London today their 8th game of the season. They were pummeled 42-10. Both teams winless in 15 combined games. In my wildest dreams I could not have predicted this. While I and my family mourn the loss of my dad, thousands of fans mourn for the non-stop losses of two NFL football teams. My step-mom is convinced my dad is somewhere having a great belly laugh at our current circumstance. So I am sorry to all the Jaguars and Bucs fans out there. All I can say is my dad had a twisted sense of humor. If he’s not drinking…No one is!

Giants... Close enough.. Sorry for your loss..

We played the San Francisco Giants today? NO WONDER WE LOST!

I say crack open the bottle polish it off and see if that breaks the curse, or take it to the Bucs stadium and pour it out on the ground in memory of your Dad, of course the first option would probably be more fun

You could always mix the 2 and everyone comes out a winner!
