The NFL has wanted a team in LA since 1996. Its been nearly 20 years. How's that working for them?
If they can't get a team to LA. They clearly can't get a team to London.
LA has no place to play, and can't seem to get it together. London has Wembly.
But either way, I don't think it'll work either.... But bet on this...Goodell is wanting to and is exploring every avenue.
IF it ever happens, it'll never be the same. Not for the better IMO.
Quote:NFL in London can't happen under the current legal structure of the UK and the EU. The CBA and the draft would be illegal in the EU, etc. Just not gonna happen anytime soon.
It would? Wow. From a place where you can bet the colour of the roll baby's first crap, it would be illegal?
Did not know that.
Then again, like our stadium leases... Bendable for the right price.

I'm thinking if they get serious enough about putting a team there, the league will expand with teams in London and Los Angeles.
The first "foreign" teams could include London, a Canadian team, and one from Mexico. Brazil is too far away, else that could be a viable option. Add Los Angeles for the 4th to get us to 36 teams.
Realignment would be easier going to 36 teams from 32 (back to 3 divisions per conference, each with 6 teams)
Playoffs could then easily include up to 16 or 18 teams (Goodell said he wanted to expand the playoffs anyway)
They might as well just create new teams, extend the regular season and playoffs.

In answer to the ' What's Next' question WingerDinger raised, expanded playoffs comes to mind immediately, if Roger Goodell has his way. The Commissioner is leading the NFL in the direction of the NHL and NBA, which is not a good thing. Playoff expansion would heavily dilute the importance of the regular season. As much as I detest NFL games being played overseas, playoff expansion is even worse.
It doesn't matter if Goodell wants a team in LA, LA doesn't want a team and the other owners want to have LA as a Sword of Damocles to force their cities to negotiate favorable stadium deals.
London has too many legal problems outside the obvious time zone issue.
