I know right now that might seem like a wasted draft pick and maybe it will be.. but it seemed to work out pretty well for the skins when they took RG3 and Cousins, both seem to be really good.. if RG3 hadn't worked out I think Cousins would have been just as if not more productive.

What do you think?

Maybe. Depends upon free agency and the situation.

Lots of needs and only so many picks.

Depends on who is sitting there in the mid to late rounds

Absolutely if they believe both guys will be good. I like Mariota as the first pick and maybe manziel in the 3rd/4th rounds, MAYBE Murrary but I see all three guys gone in the first round. Don't sleep on David Fales either.
think we have too many needs to use a pick on a second qb

rather we spent it on the lines

Also. Theres no way Manziel is a backup. Either he has what it takes, his skill set translates, and he's a star, or he will bust and leave the league in no time. No other possibilities.
Way too many needs to use the extra pick, especially when we're looking at such a low number, probably first - third, maybe fourth overall.  Pass rusher in the second, maybe again in the third, if not O line.

We got a pick for Mike Thomas and two picks for Eugene Monroe, right? So we should have 10 picks.
Definitely will be value QB's in the 4th/5th round.  Get rid of both Henne and Gabbert and save the cap space to spend on a FA guard or C.

If they come across a Kirk Cousins situation where the QB grades out head and shoulders above anyone else on their board, why not? I wouldn't recommend such a course of action in the first four rounds, but once you're in the fifth, you're starting to get into the guys who are a complete and total crapshoot and probably won't last two years. A lot less risk in jumping on a value-priced QB there than in spending a third-rounder which could be a starter elsewhere on a guy who, if all goes as planned, will never see the field.

One possible wrench in the plan could be Matt Scott. If he improves on the practice squad and during the offseason to the point where the Jags feel like he can be the backup, they may not want to invest in a third young QB and instead opt for a low-rent veteran arm.

Now that they have seen these guys play for nearly half a season, I don't believe anyone in the Jags new organization has a belief that Gabbert or Henne are the answer.  Stanzi was not an answer in KC, nor will he be here in Jax.  Scott is on the practice squad, effectively a free agent that any team could sign.....no one has for a reason.  In short, the Jags will definitely draft one, and likely two QBs (if the second one is not picked up in free agency).

Just because Scott hasn't been signed by anyone else isn't an indicator. I mean, would you sign a QB off of the Jaguars practice squad who couldn't crack the lineup on this team?

The Jags can stash him there quite safely for that reason.
No, we have more important spots to fill over backup QB.

Yes Blake bortles in round 4
Look at Caldwells picks in the 4th, 5th, and even 6th round last year. He has proven that he can find talent in the mid and even late rounds, and I would rather he use those picks on players that would contribute more than a backup QB.

The backup QB position is meaningless, if the main guy goes down your season is over.

No we shouldnt set out to draft 2 QBs, but if a guy Caldwell has a very high grade on is there with our 2nd 4th round pick or lower maybe.

I can only think of two teams to have done that, Washington with RG3 and Cousins and Green bay with Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn.

I much rather get your guy, sign and vet backup and let them compete with Henne and Matt Scott, dump Gabbert, it will be only 2 QBs most likely on the roaster, I much rather have a vet and the rookie.

Use the other picks to load up on other positions that get on the field more often.

We are a team that has only drafted 2 QBs in the last 15 years I doubt we will start drafting 2 in a year.

I just like that whatever 5th rounder QB we could find will be better than anything we have now

I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Henne or Gabbert around as a backup for now.

You're missing the point.. there's always a chance that our 1st round QB doesn't work out.. do we really want to take such a big chance with just 1 QB?

And we've not once drafted an elite QB, at some point we need to up our chances.

Unfortunately it is impossible to guarantee the long-term health and success of our starter, so any backup must be better than Chad Henne.
