Bum Phillips passes away at age 90
Former Houston Oilers coach and NFL legend Bum Phillips died Friday night at his ranch in Goliad, Texas.

Phillips, the colorful, Stetson-wearing football coach, was 90 years old.

Phillips was the leader of the Oilers during the famed Luv ya Blue era. He also coached the New Orleans Saints.

RIP Bum.

My parents moved us to a little town outside of Houston in the late 70's. I remember the Luv Ya Blue days...that song was just about everywhere you went!
Sad, but he had a long and colorful life. The NFL wouldn't tolerate a guy like him anymore.

R I P Bum.

Thoughts and prayers with the Phillips family.

My thoughts and prayers certainly go out to the Phillips family and everyone who was close to Bum Phillips.

I'll never forget the MNF game in 1978 at the Astrodome between the Dolphins and Oilers. The Astrodome was a sea of blue that night. The score was something along the lines of Oilers 35, Dolphins 30. This was one of the most exciting MNF games I can recall. In large part, because of the crowd noise and all of the blue in the stands.

When I think of legendary coaches from Texas, Tom Landry comes to mind first. Right after Landry comes Bum Phillips. In addition to both being great coaches, they were even better people.
RIP Bum Phillips. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and loved ones.
