Quote:Screw Chris Berman. That is all.

I haven't ruled Todman out yet. He has shown flashes, and the potential to develop is there. He is my sleeper on offense this year.

LOL, I used to love NFL Prime Time back in the 90's when it was just Berman and TJ...  He's kinda gotten old or something.

Todman looked good in the preseason, and I had hope for him.  I don't know, I hope he continues to develop, but he just never seems to be able to get into high gear and hit holes...  Maybe he's just hesitant and will get more confident and better vision of where the gaps are over time.

Like I said, it's a concern for me, I haven't ruled out Todman yet.  I seriously wish there was a way we could timewarp MJD back to 23 years old...

I seriously wish we could timewarp Freddy T back to 23 years old.

Maybe Kelvin can do that for us in a few years
He has had what? Maybe 10 plays in what three or four games and got a td in one of them? People act like Todman has had plenty of opportunities. Not even close.
Quote:I disagree. They did a poor job trying to zone coverage him with a second guy. The first guy kept getting out cut on the route by blackmon. 80 percent of the nfl couldve done better coverage. Blackmon could take that step soon tho. Shorts wasnt double covered till mid late last season and then his production slowed. How about early this year? He didnt get squat till garbage time when teams were in all blitz mode. Not sayin' they are bad, just sayin neither are elite
After watching the film a second time, I agree with the first part. I wonder why the Broncos chose to play off him the entire time? Blackmon's strength is after the catch, so why even give him the opportunity?

As for Shorts, the entire team was depleted. I never said he was elite but he's fairly consistent in his play. Everyone has their gaffes and Shorts is no exception. I can't blame his performances entirely on him since he is being thrown to by one of the worst starting QBs in NFL history. Also, I don't know what late season stats you're looking at, but Shorts missed two games from week 8 to week 17 and recorded four 100 yard games over that span. Is that not consistency?

Shorts is the prime definition of one of John Madden's famous obvious quotes: "If you ignore that guy on Sunday, he'll hurt you". You CAN stop Shorts, but if you don't give him the attention he demands he will put 100 yards on you every time, no exceptions.

Watch the youtube of Texans game. They triple teamed Blackmon and he still made plays. So you wonder why Denver tried zone? Because man did not work in past games. Nor did press.

On Sunday one of the Broncos CBs tried to press Blackmon and Blackmon pushed him away and twirled him around to the point where the guy's nameplate was facing Blackmon.

That was crazy. I hope this guy proves to be unstoppable.
Quote:Lol. Did you just say the only thing we need on offense is a QB? Or infer it, at least?
For some reason in my head when you say offense the first thing that comes to mind is QB/HB/WR/TE not the O line because quite honestly that's possibly the easiest part of the team to fix weather it's by draft or FA and I expect caldwell to do as much. We don't NEED a new TE, it would be nice but Lewis isn't that bad and with our outstanding duo @ WR I'm not so sure we need a pro bowl TE to score points.

though i don't think either are elite at this point though both have the potential to become elite.  The issue is right now neither of them can beat the double team, which has been shorts problem all this season.  He is being thrown at on short routes double covered which is not his game.

i think there is a possibility as a unit they could become elite especially if ace mike brown or stephen williams can become that 3rd threat that we are currently missing.

brown caught four of 5 which for a guy off injury is a good start and he looked quite elusive on the deeper routes which impressed me.

sanders has improved and just needs to get his routes sorted as he is too easy to man (good blocker though for a little guy and he seems to escape press quite well, just seems to telegraph where he is going when he runs)

stephen williams a seattle mate told me is very talented and has a lot of potential so if he can get the playbook down hopefully we will see more from him

Even if you double team both shorts and blackmon it leaves people like lewis and mjd coming out the backfield for the shorter gains to keep the drive moving. It isn't pretty but henne had a guy wide open on the checkdown on one of his picks and tried to push the ball in rather than checking down (think it was his first).  Though I understand we are fed up of check down city, I would rather we checked it down to lewis for 5 than gave other teams the ball back.  He may not be the best tight end or even a middling tight end but he is one of the best blockers which will help the run game and for all his faults/ drops he can bring a couple in

As for blackmon and shorts they are very different receivers. I want to see shorts going up the sideline on the big play for the backshoulder or even just a plain deep ball, blackmon i want him targetted on 3rd and long on a slant or curl, to get hit at the first down marker, bring the ball in and either fight for the extra or just hold it to get the first.

Shorts has been asked to play that game with these short routes in double coverage and it is not really his game and so we haven't really moved the ball. With blackmon back we have that option and as teams shift more attention to blackmon it will open up for shorts on those big plays which because they just got burned will mean they shift the attention and open up blackmon again.

I think in the end as a tandem they can be elite but jaguars... so blackmon will be caught with a spliff and shortly after shorts will be out with a concussion for the next year.
Grrr

I hope he ends up a Jag I don't think I could ever cheer against him his dad being who he is and all.
I don't agree with the premise of this thread.  Say we go 0-16 with all double digit losses (we're almost half way there), I hope strong consideration would be made against bringing him back. I know the talent situation is dire, and he is well-liked by many (I honestly hope we do get more success this season, I like him), but that kind of record is unacceptable and historically bad.

LOL I will agree anyone who tries press will get destroyed by blackmon. Del-rio isn't known for defenses that can tailor to one guy running all over the field because he's a meat-head. You stop blackmon by simply putting your most physical corner on him the entire day with a LINEBACKER close the moment he goes 5 yards down the field. Blackmon will EAT safeties and ends in coverage.

Shorts put up those numbers in all-blitz situations near the end of the game. Even the good 60 yard touchdown catches earlier in the year. I remember one game late in the season where he didn't use a go route to score a catch against double coverage for 50 yards. My argument is simply, DO IT EVERY GAME. You are right about the madden quote but that doesn't mean he's elite. Elite players don't get stopped or drop as many balls as shorts has this year. Good or bad QB withstanding, He needs (like blackmon) to be able to catch 90% of the balls thrown to him. Bad or not.

He has the worst QB and oline in the league. No one should be blaming Gus for the lack of wins.

Along with no great te and a older interior line.

I didn't say Shorts was elite, I said he was consistent, and relatively speaking, his numbers dating back to last year justify that.

Also I hope you realize you'll never find a receiver that can score every single game. But Shorts is as consistent as you can ask for out of a receiver. I don't think it's fair to put him down just because there's a better receiver on the squad
