Agreed completely!

I agree with J-Mizzal that a good draft/FA period could move us up to a more competitive team (6-8 wins), but there's no doubt in my mind we're at least two years from routinely challenging.

And you know what?

That's OK.

Today was nice. It was easy to care about Jaguars football again. It was wonderful to watch Blackmon pop. And it was tremendous to see this team fight like hell.

Cosign.

This is the best I've felt about the team in a long time.
Today was encouraging that things are starting to click. But, this team still has a long way to go.

The one thing that really has me hopeful is the fact that at 0-6, this team hasn't quit. Today they showed that in a game they were expected to get blown out of. They still have pride and heart. For a young team, that's a great sign.

After all of those years of draft day failures, that is the inevitable reality.

Yes a star caliber QB would help a lot, but it wouldn't be a cure all.  This team has deficiencies throughout the starting lineup and in the depth.

Blackmon is a game changer, but he can't do it alone.

i share your sentiment to an extent.... the nfl is becoming more of a quick turn around league.... one or two years is understandable but 3-4 year building projects are becoming a thing of the past.... i mean, im not sayin we will be deep in the playoffs after next year, but i do think we will be out of mediocrity and on our way to pushing for the division title.

Since his return, Blackmon has been a great indicator of where this team can go given time to add more playmakers. He truly has the ability to be something special if he can keep his head on straight. All indications are he's learning what it takes to be a professional football player. When he's on, he can absolutely dominate.

Add a few more playmakers on offense and this team will rise quickly.

We need playmakers on both sides of the ball.

I am really encouraged by the pressure the DL got on Manning in the first half.

If we had a stud pass rushing DE to add to Marks and co, our D can make a step up too, especially when the secondary irons out all of the wrinkles that inexperience brings.

I am feeling better about Jedd Fisch too.
Some people forget the Colts were what 1-15 then got Luck and went to 11-5, and Luck didnt even play as good as RG3 and Wilson did last year, Luck had to 2nd most turnovers of any player in the NFL, it was just that he made plays late in games and they knew that had a real QB the team played hard every week, one QB can turn every thing around.

They also had some playmakers left over.

Even though they jettisoned Freeney, Mathis is still a very good pass rusher.  They still had a playmaking WR in Reggie Wayne.

These one year turnarounds are still the exception, not the rule.
I was glad to finally watch an entire game this season (the rest have been so unbearable). I think, with a good pick at QB, we could win some games next year, but we aren't close to contending yet. The lines need to be re-built and I'm assuming the LB core will go through a shake up. I'm probably in the minority, but I still think we need another CB as well. Blackmon has played well, but I haven't seen anything from Ball, Harris, or Gratz (injured rookie, could change) to show that we don't need some help back there, though clearly not at the top of our list of needs.

We finally got to get a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. Proud of the fight our guys displayed out there though.

Even though he has been injured the last few weeks, I like what Gratz showed prior to his injury.  Coming out of the draft, he was the guy I have the most doubt about.  My doubts have been largely alleviated by him, but he needs to get healthy.

But I agree we need someone opposite him.  Will Blackmon has played well, but he's just a guy best in a reserve role.  If you are in the minority, you sure aren't alone.

I too see a faint glimmer of light.
Quote:We will contend next year if Teddy comes in and plays up to expectations and we get some help on the D/O line.

We won't contend next year...if Teddy, or Mariota, is the QB....They're still rookies.....I'd expect 5-6-7 wins next year then contending in 2015.

Agreed. That's why I'm saying we still have a ways to go. But, we are identifying some solid building blocks that will contribute over the long haul for this team right now. It's nice to have some hope after wondering if we'd ever see things start to click.

The way the team played today in a game where they were expected to fold up like a cheap tent brings a lot of hope.
Lets not get all crazy and start ripping off a few wins this early in the season.  We still need to lock up the #1 overall pick first.

Absolutely!!!

We have a bit of breathing room now with the emergence of Mariota. We can slip to the 3rd pick and still land him probably. Hes not as pro-ready as Bridgewater but could possibly have a higher ceiling.
There's something else in the Jaguars favor. The AFC South is quietly falling apart. The Texans window has closed. The Titans are not great. A 4-2 record in the AFC South division next year is possible. That kind of record would be enough to put the Jaguars in contention for a division crown.

Claiming to be "not that far away" doesn't just apply to the Jaguars roster. Its also applies to the Jaguars closest competition.

It sucks that the year we most need to tank the division has fallen apart.
Dudes, Anomaly. That's what I think. Denver's D is pretty garbage.

I'm so proud of my team we fought so hard even to the end we were battling and jb14 is the real deal out there i hope he hits 1000 yards on the year
