But we most likely wouldn't have Shorts had we done that. They weren't taking 3 WR in the first 4 rounds.

Yea, I think Gene Smith went best availiable DE on the Branch pick. I wonder if part of his downfall was to not even follow what he said his draft philosophy was in the first place. It probably was no different than the Harvey/Groves picks. Just a player away!
I just want to throw this out there and say. I was the 1st one on here vouching for the Jags to get Jeffery and almost everyone shot me down saying oh " No thank you. We dont need another Reggie Williams" or "Hes too fat and slow. He cant get any separation." A lot of you fans on here need to actually watch these athletes play because it seems like a lot of you on here have no idea what you are talking about.
I was really hoping for Stephen Hill or Jeffery with 2nd but that was before Shorts got involved.
Nearly EVERYONE was writing off Alshon in that draft due to his weight and him being considered lazy. I remember watching him several games last season wondering what he was going to do before he got injured. He hasn't matched Blackmon's total from the game against Houston last year, but he's going to be a monster, it was just waiting to be seen.

Hill is a bum. Although maybe you could say he doesn't have anyone to throw to him like the receivers we have. Then again he's made of glass too, he's injured every other game.

but anyway, I really have a hard time thinking the Jags were any realistic chance of taking another WR in the 2nd round after already taking Blackmon in the first. It just rarely if ever happens.
Alshon also has a competent QB throwing to him. But no doubt -- I'd easily take him over Branch. But hindsight is always 20/20.
I can't wait to see Blackmon put up monster numbers when we get a quality quarterback.

I was one of those people. I thought he would maybe make a decent tight end, but wouldn't do a whole lot as a receiver. Being opposite Marshall does help a bunch too though.
I'll just weigh in and say that I didn't think much of the guy during that draft. Just goes to show why I'm not an NFL GM, but instead some random yahoo on a message board.
