Quote:Wow.
If he is gone for the year, Atlanta's season is over.
Atlanta's season was likely over at 1-4 anyway.
They continue to have a garbage defense, just like in any playoff game they have participated in under Mike Smith's tenure....and he's supposed to be a defensive coach...lol.....I told you all that Mike Smith was overrated.

It likely was over.
But what real talent does he have on the defense right now?
He has no Stroud or Henderson like he had here.
He lost his best CB last year. Witherspoon is about it.

He's been there what 5 years? If anything the defense overall has regressed. At best, its no better now than when he arrived. If theres no talent on it now, he plays a part in the blame, being a defensive minded coach. What current defensive talent developed under his watch?
In addition to the Falcons Defensive Problems, their Offensive Line looks overmatched. Granted, LT Sam Baker is injured. But their O-Line problems are MUCH deeper than that. C Peter Konz currently doesn't look anything like a former 2nd Round pick. Their Right Side of the O-Line looks like a disaster area. Based on the team the Falcons fielded last night, even before the late game injury to Julio Jones, the better team ( Jets ) won the game.

lol. Oh TMD,, what would we do without him?!
Regarding Atlanta: I expect this out of them. It seems they're "consistently inconsistent." Really, one season they're awesome (up), the next season they're disappointing (down), then they're back up again.
Seems like it to me, anyway.

They've had a consistent record in the playoffs under Mike Smith..... 1-4. Consistently bad.

The worst part of it for the Falcons is how are they going to effectively replace Tony Gonzalez after this season? As bad as the Falcons are currently, they would be in serious contention for a top 5 pick without Gonzalez.
Does Dmitroff have a First Round pick for the 2014 Draft, or is he still paying for Jones? I can't remember the details of that deal.

Add Steven Jackson is out and Roddy White got hurt.
Feel bad for Tony Gonzalez. Delayed retirement expecting another shot at Super Bowl.

The Falcons have their 1st Round pick in 2014. Currently, only the Redskins ( RGIII ) and the Colts ( Trent Richardson ) don't have 1st Round picks in 2014.

I would of liked to see him get a ring but i don't feel bad for him. Im sure he will be ok with that 7 mill he makes this year.

Not having Steven Jackson at all and having a limited Roddy White certainly has contributed greatly to the Falcons 1-4 start to the season. It's fair to say that the Falcons season is on the verge of being totally derailed because of injuries.

Related to the thread you put together regarding NFL Trades, it will be interesting to see if the Falcons attempt to trade Tony Gonzalez before the trade deadline. If Julio Jones is out for the season, the Falcons should attempt to get what they can for Gonzalez.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the info.

My pleasure, Deacon.
While the Falcons paid a high price for Julio Jones, my guess is they have no regrets about the trade. A strong case can be made that Julio Jones has emerged into a top 5 NFL WR. That one handed catch Jones made last night was extraordinary.

I wouldn't be surprised if they traded him. I can see the Dolphins, Patriots, and even the Chiefs going after him. It'd be pretty cool to see him go back to Kansas City.
