Full Version: Which Qbs Can Do The Most For Their Draft Stock

Since the Jaguars are going to be in the hunt for the number 1 pick and QB seems to be a position that will be drafted at some point, we should take notice of the QBs that have the most to gain from now till the Draft. Who can do the most for their stock? This is not a reflection of the top 5 QBs, just the guys who can shoot up the boards based on their circumstances (that's why there's no Tahj Boyd).

1. Aaron Murray

The knock on Murray has been his height and inability to win the big games. While he can't control his height, his senior campaign is proving a lot for the quarterback who is 99 yards away from breaking the all-time SEC record for career passing yards. With back-to-back wins vs. Top 10 teams, he's showing that he can win the big games and will have opportunites against Florida and probable games vs. Alabama (SEC Championship Game) and a BCS bowl game. Murray has the best shot from now until the 2014 Draft to improve his draft stock. He could wind up being a Top 10 pick.

2. Zach Mettenberger

Who was this guy who looked like a lost puppy his first few games as a starter? Mettenberger probably won't be a first rounder, but he has a chance to soar up in the draft and become a potential 2nd round pick. Things started to click for him in the second half of last season and this time around, he's even better.

3. Brett Hundley

Brett Hundley is a guy who, like Murray, has a few big games coming up that could turns his draft fortunes and turn heads. Big games vs. top 10 teams like #8 Stanford and #2 Oregon could really shape how teams view him. At this point, Hundley is a good player with loads of potential. He's the guy with the big arm, speed, and tall. He could end up being a top ten pick

4. Marcus Mariota

For Mariota, it's just business as usual. I think he is in a situation where he has to show he can be a leader. NFL teams know what Mariota brings, and under the right scheme, I think someone will bite on him in the first round. He has loads of potential and has a nearly unscathed record as a starting quarterback.

5. Teddy Bridgewater

How can you improve your draft stock or become a safer pick when you're projected to go number 1 overall? Keep playing playing like the #1 pick! Bridgewater's competition won't be a challenge until he plays for a BCS Bowl Game, so it's up to him to further himself from the pack. Bridgewater will most likely show enough to solidify himself during his Pro Day, Interviews, and the Combine

The obvious choice is Brett Hundley.

Murray, and I think he will be the best QB in this class.

Everyone except Teddy, McCarron, and Murray can move up or down IMO. Teddy is locked into the #1 QB in the class by a convincing margin. McCarron and Murray are locked into solid backup QB prospect projections. They have proven plenty enough already at this point that barring something catastrophic they are what they are.

Mariota, Hundley, Carr, Mettenberger, Manziel, Braxton, Smith, etc are all still in a state of flux to me.

hmm, care to explain why?

hundley is the only qb i see giving teddy a scare but more than likely it wont happen. zach will definitely be a first rounder if he keeps playing like he did last week.
I have watched a ton of Hundley lately And I just don't see day one starter from him. He seems too raw. Mariota needs to improve his accuracy. He still throws under 60% more often than not and that's with a ton of screen passes.

Murray and Mettenburger have a chance to be late first early second if they keep doing what they are doing and not revert to last year mistakes.

Manziel is Manziel. His fate will be determined by if a GM/Owner falls in love with him.

Bridgewater doesn't need to do much other than stay healthy. He looks more NFL ready than 10 actual NFL QBs in the league.

Eh... I see maybe 5?  Not 10 though.  Not unless you are counting backups.  Hard to tell where he will rank without seeing him play in the NFL.  Ahead of Geno and Gabbert for sure though.

LOL

Murray is a product of being in a great system 4 year starter, he is not or never will be a franchise QB

Do you see the names of the guys records he is breaking, David Green SEC passing yards record and Danny Wuerful SEC TD record he needs like 7 to break it.

Those guys couldnt sniff the NFL, stop being fooled by college play, and look at the player traits
I think I am looking at character traits, and I think Murray is a damn good nfl prospect. And system QB crap is overblown. Matthew Stafford played in the same system and coach and was only the #1 pick and threw for 5,000 yards

I could care less what records he is breaking, dude is accurate, has an arm, and never really had a lot of great talent around him on offense.  He is your old school pocket passer.  Murray and Teddy are my 2 favorite in this class.

Matthew Stafford is 6'4 with a rocket arm, Murray is a mid round NFL prospect small with a weak arm and not mobile, and what I mean by system he's been starting in that system for 4 years, he better look good as a SR.

He does not have a strong arm, he has a good enough college arm, he never had great talent around him? He plays for GA, they have good OL and he had the best RB in the country. He's a good college player that is all, he is not a NFL franchise QB prospect. You have to take off the college blinders and look at how GM's and scouts think. Not one 6'1 or shorter QB has gone in the first round in the last 10 years or so. the only QB that short I can think of that short to go high is Mike Vick and he ran a 4.3 40 with a rocket arm and freakish athletic ability.

Like I have been saying, Murray is a 4th year sr. starting QB he should look good this year he should be a great pocket passer, he should be finally beating top 25 teams, its about time, does not make him a top NFL prospect at QB.
Did...did you just say Murray has never had a great team around him? Wat...?

Having a tough time judging Carr. He almost threw his team out of the game last game and this game he is getting a ton of completions but the Fresno State offense is silly. Carr has 5 wide on a ton of downs. Dude had 23 passes in the first quarter lol. He's having a good year but his numbers are inflated and he doesn't seem like he has a high ceiling. Maybe a Brees, maybe a career third stringer.

We will see. Dude can play. I don't care what his height or win/loss record is
