There are no guarantees.  We need all the picks we can get to rebuild this club.  Three first round picks and an additional second outweighs only one first rounder.

According to Caldwell, a franchise QB is the most important part of rebuilding.

And it darn well should be.

But at least nothing short of what the Rams got for RG3

The first pick of the draft, if a QB, will not be the only franchise QB in the draft.  That's even if the first pick of the draft is one.

what i dont get is if we do draft a franchise qb, why would you trade one of your starting tackles? why make the offensive line worse when you plan on drafting teddy. it would stunt his growth.

Because you don't want to pay that starting tackle top 10 money, when you can use that money to sign a stop gap solution at LG, RG, and C?

Because by the time Teddy got here to play, the team would have to negotiate with said Left Tackle and come to an agreement on a contract. What further complicates this situation is that there is a player already on the roster who grades out as a competent Left Tackle in his own right.

While your Offensive Line as a whole may have gotten worse by the time Teddy gets here, you will have enough opportunities, and cash on hand since you didn't sign a lucrative Left Tackle Free Agent contract, to bolster the Offensive Line to an acceptable level.

dude seriously? how many drafts in the recent memory have had more than 1 franchise QB?

2012 is the only one that comes to mind, before that, Rivers/Manning
Since Caldwell traded Monroe for practically nothing, I'm pretty worried that he made do the same with the number 1 pick, thinking he can find a qb later in the first round

He may trade the top pick for a grilled cheese sandwich.  You better be worried!

More often than not.  5 of the last 9 years.  And if you look at it, the best QB of the draft wasn't always the first one taken.

2012 - Luck, Griffin, Tannehill, Wilson

2011 - Newton?, Dalton, Kaepernick

2010 - none (Bradford? not IMO)

2009 - Stafford?

2008 - Ryan, Flacco

2007 - none

2006 - Cutler

2005 - Smith?, Rodgers

2004 - Manning, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Shaub?
Quote:Eugene Monroe.

Baltimore trades Monroe to Jags for #1 pick.

this made me chuckle....

Quote:Missing out on Clowney, Bridgewater, and Mariota.

Things soon to be fire GMs do?

Thats correct, Alex.

But the 1st pick of the draft is the only way you're getting that "special" QB that is unlike the rest of the QB in this draft.

Because neither were a good option at ORT, and Joeckel has the higher ceiling at OLT.

Tannehill & Dalton are only "franchise QB" in your little world. Smith??? As in "Alex"??? LOLOL!!!! Schaub has proven to not be a franchise QB either.
To answer the question - starting point would be what the Redskins gave up for RG3....and I wouldn't take equal to it, it would have to better that deal.

Otherwise, just take Teddy.

Tell me how the Colts line has "stunted" Luck's growth. That is the biggest line of crap I have heard about how a QB can't play  behind this line. Sure, the line needs to get better but look at that garbage line Manning played behind in Indy or what Rodgers has in Green Bay. Great QB's are going to be great. If the line play impacts him that much, he isn't the guy.

I agree with most of this but I do think Tannehill will be a franchise qb. The rest aren't and Pirk did put "?" by some of those qbs indicating some may think they are and some may not.

for Schaub & Alex Smith the "?" wasn't even warranted. There should be no question - they aren't franchise level QB. They are game managers.

And with Stafford... I am surprised he had a "?"....if you are going to list Jay Cutler as a franchise guy, Stafford at worst, is a similar kind of QB.

because im still leery about the teddy/luck/manning comparison. for a guy with really good pocket presence, teddy takes a lot of sacks.

Totally agree with this

Bridgewater is on pace to be sacked 9 times this season...

He's been sacked a total of 3 times in 4 games so far.
