Quote:Thats right. Meet Tony Khan

Your senior vice president of football technology and analytics aka...the head of coaching and scounting departement

He sure knows how to scout and hire coaches...................

This is the main reason that I question his judgment.  That kid wouldn't get a sniff at any other NFL franchise, and here he's a major influence.  He doesn't know crap about football, or sports.
these threads are more gut wrenching than watching the Jags play

Gee. No kidding.
Quote:That elephant is Shad Khan. Who was most responsible for keeping Gene Smith and most of the coaching staff after the 2011 season? Shahid Khan. Who more then anyone else in the entire Jaguars organization wanted to bring Tebow to Jacksonville? you guessed it, Shahid Khan. Who had the bright idea of hiring Mularkey even after his unpopular track record in Atlanta? Again, Shad Khan. Who is most responsible for the atrocious performances, bad signings, and losing seasons? From a purely leadership standpoint, it is Shahid Khan.

I'm just going to get this out of the way by saying that in my personal opinion, Khan knows next to nothing about how to run a football organization and probably doesn't even really care that much about Jacksonville or this fanbase in general. The team logo and uniform changes are just quiet steps on the part of Khan towards eventual team reorganization, and relocation. And that recent purchase of Fulham F.C. is just another piece of the puzzle.

I understand that I might get some heat for posting this, but all of you people need to wake up and open your eyes. It's like the 1984 Colts all over again.

You've posted some pretty ignorant stuff on this board in the past, but I have to give you credit.  You never stop looking to set a new standard, and this one raises the bar once again.

While I'm not a huge fan of every move the owner has made, it's become clear in the past few months that relocation is probably not on his radar for the time being.

Gene Smith was given a contract extension at the same time Weaver was handing the keys to Khan. As a new owner who recognized he did not have the football knowledge to run the organization himself, he gave Gene Smith an opportunity to remain on board to complete the process of rebuilding he'd started 2 years earlier.  So, to say he was responsible for Gene Smith and most of the coaches here last season is misleading.  Once he recognized his coach and GM were not going to take this team anywhere, he acted far more quickly than his predecessor did in removing the problems and replacing them with men who were considered rising stars.

Khan wanted Tebow from a business perspective, but again he allowed his football staff to make the call, and they ended up not signing the hometown icon.  We dodged  a bullet last year when the Jags put a better offer on the table for Tebow only to have him rebuff the Jaguars for the Jets.  When he came available this time around, the owner could have pressured his new, young GM to sign the guy, but he let him make the decision, and Caldwell made it clear beyond any shadow of a doubt there would be no scenario where the former Gator would be a Jaguar.

Gene Smith hired Mularkey.  Again, the new owner allowed his football personnel to make decisions about the football side of the business.  On the business side, I don't hear you complaining about hires like Mark Lamping.  Lamping is the voice of Khan here in Jacksonville, and almost every move he's made in that capacity has been positive for the franchise from a business perspective.

Blaming Khan for the misery we endured last season during the dying gasps of the Gene Smith era is borderline laughable.  He was just getting his feet wet as an NFL owner.  Smith and Mularkey were basically given a year long job interview while the new owner became acclimated with the league.

You really went out on a limb there saying Khan knew little to nothing about running an NFL franchise when he bought the team.  The fact that Khan said it many times, and explained to anyone who would ask that this is why he'd hire the right people to make FOOTBALL decisions for this team because he was nothing more than a fan of the game apparently didn't sink in for you.

As far as him not caring about the Jaguars fan base here in Jacksonville, I don't think he's fully embraced the local fans, but I do think he does care about what they bring to the table.  His investments in the stadium have steadily increased since taking over the team, and he's gone a step further to invest more deeply in the community.  Is that enough to show he's fully committed to the community?  Maybe.  Time will tell.

I don't really see the connection between buying Fulham and the Jags relocating.  If that logic held any water, when is Tampa Bay moving to London?

Losing sucks. Losing the way this team has the past couple of years is frustrating for Jaguar fans.  Whether Caldwell and Bradley have the right plan to turn this thing around is certainly debatable, but we're on this path, and the owner is doing everything he can to allow the football people to do their jobs to make that happen.  Fans certainly deserve better from the product on the field after continuing to show up despite the fact that it's an absolute certainty they're going to be presented with a lousy product from week-to-week. It is the fans who have been the one consistent thing about the 2012 and 2013 seasons.  They keep showing up.  I think Khan/Lamping/Caldwell/Bradley recognize this, and they're going to do everything they can to reward the support they've received despite putting a sub-par product on the field.

Kudos to you for raising the bar of ignorance in your posts.
Invest when the stock is low.... sell when the stock is high....

Chapter 1: Stock Basics

I still don't understand why relocation talk is even an issue still. The Jaguars generate more to the overall NFL revenue pie than the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills. The Jaguars have been the most attended professional football team in Florida for the past few years. The Jaguars are responsible for the largest increase in yearly attendance numbers in professional sports history at what, 70 or 80% from 2009 to 2010? At least, that's what I remember reading on ESPN.

This talk comes from this baseless stigma that the Jaguars franchise is this hapless, unappreciated organization that could only thrive in LA.

Like I said, when the Jags lose, you hear more about things completely irrelevant to the game of football than you do the actual game.

When they win, the NFL gets quiet.

I can't wait until this time next year when this squad is 4-0 and people are crying about lack of respect from the media like the old days.

If there was any point in your comment that was true I might be inclined to respond!
Quote:He is very willing to spend a ton of money on material objects like stadium upgrades and new uniforms, etc., some stuff that has somewhat of a guaranteed return like increased merchandise, food/beverage sales.

I wonder if the concept of spending millions for one person, either a high-profile player or a coach, is still foreign to him and his people.  That's probably far fetched.

I think the notion that he won't spend money on a high profile player is probably premature.  This year was about blowing up the roster.  They had to recognize that by doing so, they'd wind up in a situation where the team would be pretty bad. Knowing this, would spending large on one high profile player have served any purpose?  The team would still stink, but would signing an expensive free agent have satisfied anyone?  This team was way beyond being fixed with a couple of high profile free agent grabs.

As far as signing a high profile coach, list one that was coming to Jacksonville.  Reid was the biggest snag of this past offseason, and he pretty much knew where he was going as soon as he hit the street.  He was going to go to a team that was closer to a potential playoff franchise than the Jaguars were, so throwing all the money in the planet to hire him would have been pointless.

The other high profile coach who was hired this year replaced Reid.  How's he doing in Philly?  The jury is still out on Bradley despite the slow start.  I know many are annoyed by his eternally positive attitude, but I'm not really sure what they're expecting.  Do they want their head coach slaughtering players by name in the press?  Because you'll be hard-pressed to find an instance where any NFL head coach would do anything of the sort.  He's not going to change his demeanor in the media, so quit expecting it to happen.  But, it's clear the guy isn't happy with where things are currently, and even in his positive way, he's trying to tell the fans that this team is just lacking talent.

I tend to think this year was always expected to be a tough one.  I also think you'll see this team making more significant moves next year in free agency to support the high draft pick they'll wind up with.  That includes going after key components in free agency to help the lines.  It won't be sexy to the ordinary fan, but those will be the investments that will matter.  This year was always going to be about blowing things up once they jettisoned Gene Smith and Mike Mularkey, then identifying the new core of players who will be part of the process moving forward.  Next year is about making significant strides in the rebuild.  As fans, we've got no choice but to let this thing unfold.
The '84 Jacksonville Bulls went 6-12.....

OH... YOU SAID ELEPHANT......
maybe we can get coughlin back?

I'D TAKE JDR RIGHT ABOUT NOW........

You think that would actually make a positive difference?

If anything, it would be worse.
Settle down people.  Are you guys going to blow up after every game this year?  We are going to be bad this year.  Accept it.  You guys act like this is some sort of secret and can't believe we are a bad team.  We are going to be bad this year, we are going to be bad this year, we are going to be bad this year...

Some people seem to think that I only posted this thread because of my frustration with the team, when in fact I am being completely serious about this topic. I personally don't trust Shad, and I think that it was a huge mistake to sell it to someone who was born outside of Jacksonville, let alone the United States. I understand that rebuilding takes time, but lets face the facts here. The Jags have been getting progressively worse each year since 2011 and Khan has done very little to address the teams issues outside of the occasional PR campaign here and there.

Khan has everything to gain as a businessman moving the team out of Jacksonville, and he has the chance to do just that if it gets to the point where people just stop showing up to the games and the city no longer cares about the Jaguars. 0-16? #STANDUNITED LOL.

He did invest alot into the team facilities which is a free agency tool.... You can't say he has done nothing.

I've said before I don't trust Khan either. But to your point above; he won't need to show the city a 3 year run of losing money to get out of the lease. What's remaining on the lease is a pittance to what he would gain in equity if he moved the team. He's already broken the lease with the city by taking the games to London and he's broken the 3-year agreement with season ticket holders to provide 30 games over the next 3 years at a locked-in price.

He paid $750 million for the team. If he were to move the team to L.A., for instance, it would immediately be worth $1 billion plus. Paying off a $25 million lease to Jacksonville is hardly a show stopper when he just profitted $250+ million by the move.

He's more likely to move the team to London than to LA...if he were to move it.

I don't think he will do either.
For the record Gene Smith was pretty awful, but lets not pretend the current regime didn't completely gut the talent and let any talent worth a crap walk all while bringing in virtually nothing. After seeing the current offense, I don't know that Mularky was really as bad of a hire as everyone thought.

You know how earlier FBT said your original post in this thread set the bar for ignorance (and I'll add idiocy) from you?

You just upped it.
There isn't anyone alive in Jacksonville that could afford this team.  LMAO.
