I did not expect us to be a good team this year. Most people did not expect us to be a good team. We are not a good team.I just think we're going to aim for Bridgewater or Clowny next draft.
But there in lies my confussion.
People are complaing that we are not going to win many games. Games that if won, mean we will not have a high enough draft pick next year. What good would it do if we go 4-12 and get stuck in the "guy after" area again?
Our goals as fans? Watch football, know they are awful but the arrow doesn't need peppy pills to go up/stay up.
Organizations goals? Sell tickets, merchandise and reap in the London money.
Actually I was speaking more on the dissonance between the fact people are wanting Bridgewater/Clowny/high pick while calling for heads because we are losing games that will allow us to get him
Our offense scored 3 points in the 1st half this year.
We haven't gotten a 1st down in the 1st quarter this year.
Losing is 1 thing but I think we're all losing faith in our coaching staff which may be a major problem down the road.
Quote:After 3 games?
You don't have any concerns that our rookie offensive coordinator failed to get beyond the 36 yard line in game 1 until midway through Qtr 4 ??
You don't have any concerns that everything we did in practice and preseason does not work??
You don't have any concerns in this pass happy scoring league we got 3 points in 3 games (1st half) ?
You don't have any concerns that we haven't gotten a 1st down in the 1st quarter yet?
Those things at the end of the field. We actually got into them a few times last week.

The organization is an entertainment business, seeking to obtain revenues (and profit) through the team sport of football. One of the largest controllable aspects of the revenue equation is putting fans in the seats. In general, a team that wins games is more attractive and draws more fans in the seats. The organization, as much as they would like to have better draft choices next year or thereafter, looks at today's bottom line and open seats, and plays to win today. If they lose too many games, they will lose fans buying seats, and it may be tough to get them back in the seats at a later date.
Fans want to win initially as the season begins, with even the pessimistic ones wishing for a Cinderella story. However, if and when they deem the season as a lost cause in terms of playoffs, then they have a desire for additional losses and a better draft pick, in hopes of a better tomorrow. The tough thing is the fans make this "lost cause determination" at different times (after 3 losses and some after 10 losses). Hence, today's disconnect of fans screaming for wins and better draft picks.
How many people here didn't anticipate this being an ugly process to start the season after seeing first hand the turnover that took place over the past off season?
I know I didn't expect it to be pretty early on.
It's funny because my expectations for this year were that we'd probably be no better than last season record-wise, but that we'd actually see some improvement as the season progressed. Despite injuries, and players being unavailable due to suspensions, we have actually seen improvement from game to game. That's what you should be seeing, and even though the losses are painful for fans, if you look at what's happening on the field, it's slowly coming together.
That's what happens when you blow up a roster and start with a much younger group.
What I find interesting here is that many of the people howling the loudest on this board about how bad things are today were the same people who were demanding Khan blow everything up after last season. He did exactly what the fans wanted, and now they're practically making the same demands now AFTER THREE GAMES.
While the nation looks at the Jaguars as the joke of the NFL, they might want to look at the bigger joke here: some of the fans.
3 games. Gradual improvement from the start of the season to now. Because they're not playing at a championship level, the hand wringers are out in force complaining the loudest. Nothing but a bunch of spoiled brats.

yep.
Couldn't we sign a bunch of aging free agents to trick us into thinking we are a player or two away, when in reality our drafts are so bad that once those free agents go into the time induced sprial of decline we figure out that we have no talent and go 2-14?
Why aren't we doing that?

You're just catching on that some people on here (and any message board) are pretty stupid?

I expected it AND I am one of the few people that would rather draft #1 then win some games down the road and draft #5.
That said, there is no way that I can get up to 10,000 posts by sitting here in lovey dovey world thinking all is well.

Dont say "we're all", when in reality its only the people who dont understand whats going on who think the coaching staff will be a problem.
We have the worst interior line in the league, with the worst quarterback situation in the league, and currently only 1 WR/TE who had any experience in the NFL. If you expected that cast of characters to be competitive you are insane.
This year is about finding what pieces are worth keeping for the future, and right now, it seems like there is only about 15 players on the whole team who will be here in beyond 2014.

Some fans may be losing faith in the coaching staff, but I'm more concerned with what the players think. We are all not losing faith in the coaching staff. Hard to judge them when your interior line is playing this bad, your QB's are playing this bad, you don't have your most talented WR playing, your last game had 3 rookies in the secondary, your 2 starting CB's are out due to injury, your best TE (and though he hasn't lived up to where he was drafted, he would still help this team) hasn't played, etc... We have major issues all over the roster. Some talent, some injuries, some youth. I have a hard time blaming the coaches. Maybe part of it is the coaches, but you can't get a gauge with how bad the players are playing.
- Run for it!
