I know bloody injuries are not new. Once Bryan Barker broke his nose (when he played for the Redskins) and that was a bloody mess. But a Cardinals player suffered one I thought looks like something in a horror movie. In fact, there is a warning at the top of the article that some people might not want to read about it.

You can also call this a perfect case of a player being tough by playing through an injury because Rashad Johnson called it the most painful injury he ever had and later an operation was required to amputate a small portion of his left middle finger. It can't get weirder than this.

Ouch....
Theisman will always be the worst. Always.

Ed McCaffery had a pretty gnarly leg injury too.

Did you see a leg bone and lots of blood on his sock?

That had to be the worst bone break ever because it forced him to retire. But on the ugliness scale, would you say it was worse than what happened to Rashad Johnson?

Grisly in the sense that you can tell just by looking at the replays his leg broke. But I could not see any bones or blood when he was getting assistance on the field.

Grossest Football injury of all time: Napoleon McCallum. (NFL)

Grossest Basketball injury of all time: Kevin Ware. (NCAA)

Grossest Sports injury of all time: Clint Malarchuk. (NHL)

I don't suggest you watch any of those.
Hail, you don't have to worry about me watching them. I don't even know who those guys are.

Did anybody click on the link to see why this one is so disgusting?

The only one I'm familiar with of those is Kevin Ware and if the other two are anything near as bad as that one...I'd have no interest in watching those. That injury was hard to watch.

The McCaffery broken leg was ugly indeed.

The McGahee knee blow-out was really bad too.  ( i think it was miami's bowl game his senior year?)

When I saw it live on TV - I thought he'd never make come back and make it in the NFL.  He did that and came back from 2 more ugly injuries during his pro career.  Tough dude....

So you have to know an athlete for an injury to qualify as gross?

McCallum..... was a runningback for the Raiders until his career ended on a run up the gut. His body west bent in a way that I never want to see a person bent again. His leg was jello.

Kevin Ware..... Gross because leg snaps suck, but gets bonus points because it was such a freak occurrence. All he did was jump. Legs aren't suppose to snap and break through the skin from jumping.

Clint Malarchuk.... he was a goalie who was in the right place at the wrong time when an opposing player lost his balance and slid into the goal. The players skate sliced Malarchuk's neck, severing his carotid artery. The Carotid Artery is the vessel that supplies your brain and face with blood. A bleed from this vessel will kill a person in minutes, and you can see why in the Malarchuk injury. Within seconds there is a pool of blood formed. A trainer had to rush out and plug the vessel with his hands. It is truly disturbing.
Having seen the Malarchuk injury on NHL highlights and a youtube video vs the Rashad Johnson finger break id still give it to Malarchuk for the shock factor. Would rather see a snapped and split finger vs a man possibly bleeding to death from his neck.

Tyrone Prothro. Yuck.

I actually saw both of those football injuries live on TV and yes, McCallum's was utterly horrific as well.
The Lattimore injury...

I thought McGahee was a junior and skipped his sneior year.

I knew he would be drafted. He was supposed to be a top five pick and dropped 20 spots because the injury.

I never said that. By not knowing about any of those other injuries, I was unable to see why they would be grosser than Rashad Johnson's finger amputation.

Who is he and why was that yucky?

It's a must see of Horrific injuries. He played WR at Alabama about 10 years back. The game was against UF. He was running a straight vertical. Jumped up to catch it, came down wrong, and on top of that the defender landed on the leg. Literally snapped it at the ankle. It was dangling there. Only a ligament or tendon was holding it together. It was gnarly looking.

I went to youtube and started typing Tyrone, then "Prothro snaps leg" pops up on its own. Yeah, it's nasty.
The Sean Livingston knee (NBA) injury is pretty nasty also.

Tavian Banks was not enjoyable to watch. I think he put his leg on backward after that play. Sick

*youtubes Bank and Livingston injuries*

Eh id still put them behind the Malarchuk injury.

#1 Malarchuk

#2 Lattimore

#3 Prothro

#4 Livingston
