Here is a good write up on Barnett.  I didnt realize he is only 2 sacks behind Reggie White for Tennessee all time leader in sacks, I knew he was good but didnt realize he had that kind of production.  Probably my to guy on the board at this point.  Can never add to many pass rushers.

How Tennessee DL Derek Barnett tackles double and triple teams

In 22 career SEC games, Barnett has accounted for 27 sacks, 40 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one interception. The Tennessee defensive end, now a junior, has continued to put up monster numbers this season — despite, obviously, being a focal point of any opponent’s game plan — including a sack Saturday against Kentucky.

“Teams often will slide their protection toward Derek, or use the running back to chip him,” Tennessee defensive coordinator Bob Shoop said. “Corey had a couple tackles for a loss and a couple sacks this past weekend. It's the ultimate compliment sometimes, when teams are constantly game planning and sliding their protection to you.

Barnett’s 30 career sacks rank him second in Volunteers history at the moment, behind Tennessee’s all-time sack leader Reggie White’s 32. Tennessee’s final home game is Saturday against Missouri, giving the 6-3, 265-pound junior a shot to tie or break the record in front of his home crowd.

He is who PFF mocked to us at #4 in their first mock draft. He's got their top pass rush grade this year.

The last two years Bosa had their top pass rush grade, and they have certainly been right about him being a stud instead of good not great like most of us thought about his pass rush prowess.

Him and Jon Allen are the safest picks on the Dline this year. Both will be very good to great NFL players.

I dont really look to much at who pff has ranked and where.  Almost everyone had Bosa as the top player on the board including myself.  Not a shocker for having Bosa at the top but I agree with them this year as well.  Havent seen many if anyone have Barnett as the top player on peoples board like Bosa was all last year but I think he will rise on peoples boards come season end
I would not spend another first round pick on a D-Lineman. There is quality guys to be found in the mid rounds once we get rid of this "screwy" hybrid defense.

Barnett has Fowler-type ability to bend the edge(which means he's kinda stiff). As edge-rushers, Williams and Lawson are far better, though Derek is a better run defender than those two at this point.

what position would you like to spend our top 3 pick on?

Trade down and fix the O-Line.

what if you dont get a good trade down offer then who do you take?

I don't follow the formula that you have to get a certain type of offer to trade down. If the best offer I get is a low 1st rounder, a 3rd rounder and a 5th rounder to move from #3 to #25, I take it. I don't care about following some trade value chart. I have 2 incentives and that is to trade down and accumulate picks and I did that via the trade. I don't want to pick at #3, because I'm targeting certain players that are late first rounders and I'm sticking to my draft plan.

Care to share the names of the O-Linemen you like??

so youre cool with getting players that arent nearly as good just to fill a need
Pass rush is just as much a need as oline and olinemen are easier to find than a great pass rusher. That plan isnt good.
Jonathan Allen to me is a much better player and much safer pick. This guy seems like a better version of Odrick.

Clearly both pass rush and O-Line have to be improved.

Note: I would prefer seeing Fowler at SAM instead of DE.

Agreed

Not nearly as good? According to who? I see a ton of quality guys in this draft, but no standouts. Why stay at the top and get one player when we can trade down and get 2 or 3 of equal value?

Fowler should've been drafted as a SAM in the first place. Hopefully our new coach will recognize this and make the necessary adjustments.

Yes, we need a pass rusher, but I totally disagree about O-Linemen being easier to find. If that was true, we'd have a decent O-Line.

Just look at some of the greatest pass rushers in history. They weren't all first rounders. Guys like......

Jared Allen was drafted in the 4th round

Reggie White went to the USFL before he went to Philadelphia

Kevin Greene was drafted in round 5

Michael Strahan was drafted in round 2

Jason Taylor was drafted in round 3

John Randle was undrafted

You can find quality d-linemen in the mid rounds. I'm not saying we should ignore that need, I just think the O-Line is a bigger priority and once we install a true 4-3 or 3-4 scheme instead of a hybrid, it will make a difference as well.

You can assume theres gonna be no distinction between the guy youd take at 3 or at 25 but thats probably not the case. This is generally regarded as a bad class for oline and at 25 i dont think its crazy to assume two of those olineman are gone. Youre really assuming the best case scenario here.
