Is glyphosate dangerous? Recent (5 years) studies have claimed it is dangerous to human cells and is contained in the majority of foods in the "Western diet".
Curious to hear peoples thoughts on this. I try to be careful when I use the stuff around the house, but was curious if the fumes of it have the same effect as ingesting foods that have been treated with it.
Never heard of it before. They found some in Ben & Jerrys according to google.
Pretty sure anything ending in -sate must be dangerous.

It is the main ingredient in roundup and what most farmers use on the crops most people eat.

On the danger-meter of what gets sprayed in fields it's pretty far down the list. I believe it's a Cat 3 chemical.
Also, I would consider it inaccurate to say it's sprayed ON crops. If it is coming into contact with something you're actually trying to grow, it's incedental. All though, depending on how your sprayer is calibrated it can be very easy to have happen.

Pretty much. If I lined up the 50 most popular ag chemicals I could think of and you asked me to rank them from most dangerous to least dangerous, I might put Glyphosate at 50.
And it doesn't even go on the actual crop or fume. Much worse stuff gets sprayed directly onto food, IMO. Actual stomach poison (for critters), for instance.
I think Glyphosate/Roundup have become a touchstone for people because it's Monsanto's most widely used and well known product.
Also, think about this. There are many chemicals that ag professionals have to get on-going training and certification to buy or handle.

Yes, it is. However, its under patent by Monsanto and is one the main features of thier high profit GMO crops which are 'roundup ready.' So you will see plebty of missinformation and studies claiming its fine or not conclusive that it causes harm. To be clear glyposate cause more problems with gut bacteria than with us. But you have 10x as many gut bacteria as cells and they play an extensive role in many processes.
As far as appliacation timing, it doesn't matter if its immediately before or not (even tho that is a recommended practice). Its commly found in wheat products
