Marrone 'concerned' after Blake Bortles' 5-INT practice
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...t-practice
Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles threw five interceptions during Saturday's practice. Bortles spent the offseason working on his mechanics but Saturday's outing showed the QB has a ways to go.
This is being ridiculously overblown. It was one practice....
Good reason to be concerned.
But if he has a couple solid practices this coming week, it's a nothing burger.
If he starts having 3, 4, 5 INTs on the regular... it becomes something worth being overly concerned about.

I don't necessarily disagree as people shouldn't crown him after a 5TD/0INT practice, but Blake is going into his fourth season and has had trouble with turnovers. Definitely not a good introduction to 2017 Bortles.
well he is terrible so that makes sense
I am not concerned about the 11 on 11 interceptions, but the 7 on 7 ones are no good It isn't necessarily a harbinger for a bad season, but boy it would be nice to hear next to nothing about him instead of the 5 ints.

I have nothing against bottles but God please let him break his leg .I would take kaepernick and feel confident walking in that stadium knowing we have a very good chance of winning the division.
Is it wrong of me to not really hate the comment?
Pretty soon, BB will be so worried about the result of his throws, he may stop throwing all together. He is at a delicate point right now.
The biggest issue with Bortles is not his mechanics. The main issue is he is not a smart NFL QB. He does not know how to really read a defense and makes many stupid mistakes.

And circle gets the square.

It would be interesting to see some video of the INTs, to see if the problem was with his mechanics that he spent the offseason trying to fix, or bad reads against the defense he was facing. It does concern me that Marrone's already think about yanking plays out the book after one bad practice.

Bortles then needs to be so erratic that the defense can't read him. Only way we'll win some games this year

Agreed. First practice in pads while probably running vanilla plays. The headlines of articles by a few sports "journalists" are very misleading. Looking at Marrone's press conference after yesterdays practice, I didn't get the feeling or vibe that he was all that "concerned" about it.
I wasn't at the practice yesterday so I can't comment on any of the INT's. Bad decision? Bad throw? Or could it have been a poor route on the receiver or just good play by the defense?

I came away with the same impression from his press conference. He was not nearly as damning against Blake as these articles are trying to suggest.
I also saw a comment that 3 of the INTs we're after a would be sack whistle. So take the fwiw.
Now if he continues to have practices like this then yeah, we have a problem.
Time to draft Lamar Jackson
To plays the Devils advocate:
Maybe the defense just played outstanding yesterday? I have seen elite QB's like Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning, etc play like total trash against elite defenses.

Well i disagree.. If it was anybody else then i woukd say "yeah this is being overblown". But since this is Bortles.. This is very concerning.. Especially seeing how we are expecting him to be improved from his training out west.. Bortles just cant afford no bad practices.. His leash is about as short as Midget Mac.

To play devils advocate to that, you'll need to play well against elite defenses if you want to win a championship. As well we think the D is now, we can't call them elite unless they prove it on the field.
Having said that, I'm hoping it's because Blake isn't used to practicing against a good D. That combined with a hangover or something.
