I started looking around at QBs projected to go in the 4th-6th rounds a few weeks ago and ended up watching a few cut-ups of this kid.

I think he'd be dangerous with the Jags receivers and the various projections are now showing him as a third rounder.

(as mentioned -he was considered a 5th/6th rounder early this season.)

Check out his San Diego State cut-up on draft breakdown. Some big-time throws, some smart throw-aways, and a few dumb decisions sprinkled in.

I'd really like seeing this kid competing with Bortles and Allen in July 2017. He's about 6'4" - 225 BTW.

From what I gather - He's a graduate transfer to Cal from Texas Tech where he started but then lost the starting job and went elsewhere.

His technique isn't perfect but it's farther along than Blake's. He does make some poor decisions occasionally and that's why I like him in the 4th much more than the 3rd but he may still be a good pick in the 3rd.

A glimpse of the release (since it's a popular knock on Bortles currently) -

And his deep ball:

Anyone else been checking out this prospect?

The next Dak Prescott? It's clear we HAVE to draft a QB at some point this draft...why not him?

If we're going for a mid round QB, I really kinda like the kid from Oklahoma State, Mason Rudolph. I've seen him a couple times this year and he impressed me.

Here is some of his 2016 highlights.

If our QB depth chart next year is Bortles, Allen, and a day 3 rookie that will be a catastrophe.

Throw Glennon or Hoyer in there.
Hell rather have Hoyer than Henne

So what's your fix, Mr. Wizard?
In reference to Dak, I doubt it. I think he just happens to be in the best situation for a young qb or really any QB. Best o-line in the NFL, Zeke is amazing and a top 5 RB, pretty good receiver corps as well.
I watched a few of his games.

He seems fairly well rounded but nothing really jumps out at you when you watch him. When I watch QBs I look for at least one thing they do at an elite level that they can hang their hat on in the NFL and I don't really see any of those traits with Webb.
Looks like Luke McCown. He's not taking the Jags to the playoffs.
Why wait until round 3 - Trubinski and Kaaya are both lightyears ahead of Webb

If Caldwell is back a veteran like Hoyer. If we do a total house cleaning then I wouldn't put a QB in the first or second round past a new GM.

Either way a QB group of Bortles and two completely unproven low draft picks makes no sense.
CJ Beathard the Iowa QB is a guy I like, although nobody else seems to like him.

Hes 6'2 220, has a big arm, played in a pro-style offense, makes good decisions tough as nails, agile enough to move around the pocket. Led Iowa to a 12-0 record last year. Great deep ball and touch on his passes. His stats are pretty meh but I like everything else. Kind of a poor mans Dalton with a bigger arm.
I saw a mini documentary of him and he seems like he could be a steal in the draft. He would need work in the pro offense but he can throw the ball well and has a pretty good release.

Watched him against Michigan, literally the worst qb I have ever seen

I was just searching for mid and late round guys that would present "competition" if the new HC and Caldwell (or new GM) aren't of the mind to give up completely on Bortles yet.

At this point we have no idea who will be making the decision about addressing the position and how they'll go about doing it.

I feel like a mid rounder brought in to compete is a possible scenario if Dave wants to stick with Blake but a new HC wants another option.

I would not have an issue with the team drafting a QB higher.

I'm just speculating a mid-rounder may be the approach they (whomever they are) take.

I've only seen a few cut-ups of Trubisky but he looks like a legit first round talent and is further along as you suggest (maybe not lightyears, but...)

Kaaya on the other hand is much more inconsistent with his mechanics than Trubisky, especially when pressured or throwing deep. He's definitely not lightyears ahead of Webb, IMO. He'd be an interesting pick if he's there in the second round. Wouldn't hate it.

Think he only threw for 60ish yards in that game. Probably more of a backup kind of guy.
Just make sure he passes the natural passer question.

Can't believe Blake said he's not....it really shows.
What about mid-round prospects like Mason Rudolph and Cooper Rush ?
SI - MMQB:

Most Likely to be the Next Dak Prescott

1. Nathan Peterman, Pittsburgh. A few NFL teams are intrigued by the graduate transfer from Tennessee. Though his size (6' 2", 225 pounds) is average and his decision-making can be shaky, Peterman has the intangible scout covet the most: toughness. He stands tall in the pocket, but also flashes mobility outside it.

2. Seth Russell, Baylor. He’ll need some coaching, but Russell has a big arm. The word you’ll often see tagged to this quarterback: athleticism. After a broken left ankle cut his season short, he needs a big showing at the combine (if he’s healthy in time) or in pre-draft workouts, but many believe he’s capable.

3. Davis Webb, California.
Interesting that we’re tagging Jared Goff’s successor as the “Next Dak Prescott.” Though Webb doesn’t have Goff’s pedigree, some scouts believe he has a better arm. The graduate transfer from Texas Tech already proved he’s more than just a system guy. With a strong draft season, beginning with the Senior Bowl, Webb can prove he can start in the NFL, too.

4. Pat Mahomes, Texas Tech. Valuations on Mahomes vary from Top 50 pick to undrafted free agent. While his size (6' 3", 230 pounds) and arm strength are enticing, scouts wonder if he’s just a product of Tech’s system. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy doesn’t think so. Here’s Gundy, earlier this month: “I think [Mahomes] is a potential first-round pick. He reminds me a lot of Dak Prescott, when we played Dak and Mississippi State when he was younger. The style of play, body, strength, speed, ability to throw in different positions, it reminds me a lot of him.”
