Yup, servicable qbs can be found in the 7th round. Its just the jags scouting dept and coaching development sucks.
Just a quick thought.  Blake looks so much better in the 4th Quarter when we're up tempo and spreading it out.  Is this the result of a relaxed defense, or is it because Blake is a better QB in an up tempo spread offense?  I know we want to be a ground and pound team, but why don't we throw aat least a series of a hurry up offense in earlier in the game to see if it's effective?
Defense playing off. It's the same crap every year.
Defense relaxes when up by a score that can't be overtaken by the bum at QB the Jags have.
I know but we are so conservative the rest of the game. I just wish we'd open it up a little more. Maybe throw on 1st down more often. To Blakes defense, it's very hard to be an NFL QB and have the majority of your throws come on obvious passing downs.
There is a point in a lot of games where it becomes advantageous for the defense to trade clock for yards. Blake is very good once we get past that point.
Bortles is a garbage time QB. I say we play to his strengths, let the opposing team score 30 points in the first quarter and maybe they'll let us play catch up.
Bortles is garbage. He has no feel or passion for the game.
He looks like a pub guy playing darts. He is addressing the football instead of throwing it. If they open it up, we will see pick six football in the first quarter. At least with the lame plan that will produce game manager play, we will make it to the second half before the D is gassed.

He probably is, all the rumors about him out drinking it up might be true.

Still believe his play isn't a big problem?  If it was only one game that would be one thing. The last 2 games last year and now these 2 games show not much has improved/changed.

We have "genuises" on this board that say that's not proof that Bortles gets fat on garbage stats.

Bortles sucks. And it is disgusting that our front office made us sit through another year of this microwaved garbage.

This game indeed was heavy on the garbage stats, and Blake racked up a lot of garbage time stats last year as well. It just ticks me of when someone attempts to claim that 2015 was likewise full of garbage time stats because that's just not true.

Seventh round? Like who?
Teal Hammer keeps bringing this up as if this hasn't been discussed for well over a year. This isn't ground breaking stuff. It's well known....Not only that, but you regurgitating another guys poorly written article is laughable.

Everyone knows Bortles isn't that good.

Because he has Thomas and Sanders.  Our guys couldn't get open yesterday to save their lives.  There were literally no windows yesterday.  Which makes it even harder for a guy with accuracy issues.

There was a clip during the Broncos game where Simean missed a pass to Sanders where he was open by about 10 yards....no such issues for the Jags yesterday.  Hurns/Lee could barely get a yard separation.
The Garbage Man can't even clean up his own trash. 3 TOS yesterday. Pathetic

It just always seems like soon as the qb sucks we go to this narrative of the receivers not getting open. I'm would almost bet if we watched the all-22 film we would see tons of open receivers to NFL standards. People are not gonna be 5 yards open like they are in the college game. A lot of the time you have to throw into tight windows or even throw a wideout open. Blake is just not good at actually playing the qb position.

Yesterday the defense went soft because they were up by 3+ scores and knew our offense wasn't going to crawl back into the game.  Any time you're putting it on Bortles to go out there and make plays, the team is in trouble.  They HAVE to be a ground and pound team because of his propensity to turn the ball over when it's no him to carry the offense.  He's hampered by receivers who couldn't shake coverage to save their lives yesterday, and when he did hit them on target, it was a 50/50 prospect as to whether they'd catch the ball or not.

I need to go back and watch the game again, but on the total muff by Marcedes Lewis, it almost appeared as if he got confused about which was his left and which was his right hand.  They sort of crossed over each other as the ball went through them.

It's not all on Bortles, but he owns the majority of the issues in the passing game.  He thrives as long as you're not sending the rush after him, and you're playing soft coverage giving up everything underneath.  That only happens in practice, and in blowouts.

You mean like the time yesterday when Hurns was open down the sideline against their fastest CB and Blake underthrew him by a mile.

Anything that claims all scores in 4th quarter, or all scores in 2nd half when down by 3 scores, or anything in a 2 minute drill while down by 10 or less.... c'mon.

WIKI SAYS: Garbage time is a term used to refer to the period toward the end of a timed sporting event that has become a blowout when the outcome of the game has already been decided, and the coaches of one or both teams will decide to replace their best players with substitutes.

I'd venture to say very little of Bortles scores have come with substitutes in the game... the NFL rarely does this unless in a super blow out game.

I'd guess (without reading this ridiculous article) that the majority of his "garbage time" did not come when the game was technically out of reach.
In the NFL we've seen teams score 2 TDs in 4-5 minutes of game play.
With time outs and challenges and 2 minute warnings... the time of the end of the game is stretched and a lot can happen.

Now... some will argue "prevent D" yadda yadda..
Firstly, many of us casual observers don't know the actual difference in cover 4 and cover 0, much less when some team is playing prevent D, except on the Hail Mary end of game plays when you see 8 defenders back.
So stahp.

The obsession of the fan base and miniscule reporting bloggers of harping on Bortles is getting a little out of hand.
There HAS to be actual football news to report on right?

Dang.
