Jerry Lewis, Nonpareil Genius of Comedy, Dies at 91

He dominated show business with Dean Martin in the 1950s, starred in 'The Bellboy' and 'The Nutty Professor,' hosted the Labor Day telethon for decades and received the Hersholt award.

This is one of those "He was still alive?" moments.

I remember when his telethons were big events because that was the only time a TV broadcast went all night (at least in rural Kansas). My brothers and I used to try to stay up all night and watch because it was such a novelty. I never made it. 3 A.M. pulls mighty heavily on a 10-year-old's eyelids.
Hi, Jaguars fans. At age 91. Also hosted his telethon for muscular dystrophy every Labor Day weekend and part of the Rat Pack in Vegas RIP, JL.

He helped out a lot of kids while he was here.. There's a special place in heaven for Jerry.. I'm jealous, I'll never see that place.

RIP.. Damn good soul..
The guy raised $2.5 billion for muscular dystrophy before they fired him back in 2011. His efforts for the charity are unparalleled. Anyone who was anyone participated in his telethons. I remember what an event they were when I was a kid.

I saw one of his last interviews in the past year. The guy didn't suffer fools lightly. The reporter asked him silly questions, and rather than do the Hollywood routine of offering some mindless response, he snapped back at the reporter. It was funny stuff. The guy was still working right up to his death. When the reporter asked if he'd considered retiring, he asked why he should do that. Working kept him alive.

RIP
