Yeah, but this time we created another need in TE we didn't have to do. We basically acquired a position of need to create a new one. Now the dude won't even show up...why?

As the weakest position by far, TE is tough to even peg down.

We're probably keeping four TEs...

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

<p style="margin-left:40px;">TE1: Marcedes Lewis, Mychal Rivera

<p style="margin-left:40px;">TE2: Ben Koyack, Mychal Rivera, Alex Ellis

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Practice Squad: Caleb Bluiett

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

<p style="margin-left:40px;">waived: Neal Sterling

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

Sterling vs Ellis for the final TE spot should be a battle. I had Ellis winning on a coin flip.

I'd keep Sterling over Ellis. Better playmaker.

I disagree, Parnell wasn't very good last year and Albert will be 33 and has an injury history. We need another young and good tackle on this roster.

At NT I suspect the Jaguars were targetting Stevie Tu'ikolovatu with their final pick, but he went immediately after we picked Myrick. So instead we got our FB.

Still, we should be ok at NT. I'm still wondering why exactly we waived Roy Miller III, however, there are two players on the roster vying for the rotational spot at NT with Abry, and the winner of that battle should suffice. I'm referring to Stefan Charles and Louis Nix. Charles is clearly the favorite, but I like how Nix has prior experience on the Jaguars roster, and from size perspective is shorter than Charles yet heavier.

I could literally go either way there. I kind of wish I could say Jordan Leggett or Bucky Hodges at the spot, but that's another story.

This year we're fine, although you may have a point that we need to plan for Albert retiring knowing Parnell can be upgraded. I'm really liking the idea of Parnell sliding inside because he's a very physical and effective OT but struggles with the quicker edge rushers. I suspect Cam will adapt quickly enough to be a considerable upgrade out there while Parnell may just find his niche at RG. There's often concern when moving taller guys like Parnell inside, but that's more about their ability to get low, and I've seen Parnell get low and drive block just fine.

So, with all of that in mind, in next year's draft we could probably use a RT.

Would've been nice to have landed Wagner or Reiff in this years FA period.
Offensive line as many have already pointed out. We addressed LT by trading for Albert and drafting Robinson who I feel could either fill a need at LG or upgrade the RT position during his rookie year by bumping Parnell down the depth chart.

That leaves really the guard positions as glaring concerns in 2017. Albert at LT, Linder at C, Robinson at RT. I'd like to see Parnell moved inside to RG and then have Cann, Omameh, Shatley and the rest of the guys on the team slug it out for the LG position. We currently have 15 OL on this roster. Somebody has to emerge at some point as the clear cut LG or RG for this team.

I still think passing up on Dan Feeney could come back to bite us. We'll see.

BTW, when we picked up Poutasi it was said the young OL has the talent to start at RT. In other words, we might already have that young, developmental RT on the roster.

Here's a question: if the Jags wanted to keep Beachum for insurance, and then signed Albert to start, do you think Beachum would have stayed? My point is, this year I think we should we should sign another vet LT for insurance. Between his injuries and his holdout, I don't think Albert will play a full season. And I don't want Cam starting at LT this year. I'd rather see him play at guard, then ease into the LT role in 2018.

Are there any halfway decent vet LTs out there?

Why not let Cam ease into LT this year should Albert go down? And no there aren't just quality LTs sitting out there. Wells is on the roster, and is far more quality than anybody they might pick up at this point... and because of Cam we might not even keep Wells.

Other than Boselli, has any rookie LT on the Jaguars been effective in his first year? Maybe so, but I can't think of any.
Mike Pearson played surprisingly well in pass pro as a rookie LT although he always stunk as a run blocker.

I didn't watch the draft on Sunday. What made you suspect they were targeting that NT?

I thought they might want a young guy behind Jones and Charles as primary starters, but I now don't think they have room for a 3rd NT. ...instead I see them maybe keeping either Bennett or Lupeamanu as a 3rd DT behind Jackson and Day unless they opt to go DE heavy instead. ...they do sort of need an extra RDE spot for Lerentee McCray.

I think Nix may still be PS eligible.  That's your "third NT"  if so.

Lerentee McCray is a DeCamillis signing primarily for ST and is a long shot see action at DE, IMO.  But of course they have to find room for him on the 53 if he becomes a core special teamer.

If I had to guess at what it looks like just before final cuts, I'd say:

Strong DE:   Campbell, Smoot, Woodard (PS?)

NT:               Jones, Charles , Nix (PS?)

DT:               Jackson, Day, Bennett

Weak DE:     Ngakoue, Fowler, McCray

If they put Woodard and Nix on the PS they could conceivably keep 10 DLs if McCray makes the cut as a core special teamer.

Smoot has some flexibility to play both sides and Fowler did some good work on the strong side at times last season, so there's flexibility in that group of ends.

Of course Campbell will move around and Jackson has the ability to play strong end as well, so I think they can muster a number of looks and keep fresh legs with that group of ten.

Odd men out in this scenario are Goodman, Phillips (PS eligible), and  Dimick (PS eligible).

If they keep only nine, then Bennett or McCray are likely on the chopping block.

That's roughly what I'm thinking, although I'm pondering the possibility of Phillips beating out Bennett as the 10th DE... yeah it means keeping 6 DEs and 4 DTs, but that number is a bit of an illusion do to McCray being kept as a DE. In other words, it's still really only 5 DEs and 4 DTs with Phillips as that 3rd RDE. With only 5 total DEs, they'll need Smoot to play both sides.
