Could it be that even they could see that masked thugs beating people is a bad thing? But then why couldn't they see it last week or last month or last year?

I had to laugh at that picture- a guy being hit with a sign that says "no hate."
That is really funny. Of course, not to the guy that's getting hit with the sign, but the irony is really humorous.
Also note that Antifa duct-taped their own No Parking signs on trees so the victim kill zone wouldn't be strewn with parked cars.
Didn't they tell the black guy in the wife-beater t-shirt to hold his applause until we can see blood?

Domestic terror group. They need to be treated as such. The guys like George Soros funding these monsters needs to be looked at as well.
Interesting item from Charlottesville. Every masked Antifa protester was guilty of a Class 6 felony.

Law enforcement officers do not have the choice to stand down in the witness of a felony. Except for special circumstances that do not apply in the Charlottesville incident (drug stings, infiltrating criminal organizations, and so on), it is illegal for LEOs to witness a felony and do nothing to stop the felony and arrest the perpetrator of the felony.
In addition , it's likely the mayor committed two felonies in ordering the police to stand down: 1) He facilitated the commission of a felony by allowing the Antifas to wear their masks in violation of the statute, and 2) he obstructed justice by interfering in the execution of the statute.
A group like Antifa doesn't gain momentum like they have without serious funding. Whoever is funding them should be investigated.
Amazing that 'Antifa' use the exact tactics of actual fascists. Actually its not, history is one big repetition sometimes. And I don't think I am going out on a limb when I say those in the masks probably don't know any of it. Common Core for the win!

Much of the funding for Antifa, BLM, and other anarchist type movements can be traced back to guys like George Soros.
The question is, why the reversal? They all got their marching orders to condemn Antifa. The real test will be the next rally or event. If Antifa is allowed to continue to hide their faces and commit felonies in full view of police, we'll know nothing has changed.
I think the answer is simple, you! 50 years ago, there would have been no way to counter the media narrative. Now we have smart phones and the internet so that the truth about what actually happened can't be hidden forever.
I think the left is FINALLY figuring out that bombastic language and violence (adult temper tantrums) aren't going to reverse their political situation.

The real target is the right. They are trying to provoke a conservative backlash. I would urge conservative groups to just avoid these planned confrontations. The elites desperately want the violence to escalate. So just don't show up. Let Antifa battle the cops. I wonder if the cops will stand down and let Antifa beat them up.
