Meh, week 1. Things change drastically over the course of the NFL season. It always does, every year. 

(Remember week 1 last season when the Jags played the Packers? Jags played them tough, with a legit chance to win near the end of the game. And, it could be argued that the Jags would've won without some egregious refereeing that day.) Anyway, how'd both those teams' seasons end up? Packers,, yeah they were good. Jags? heh

Barring any major key injuries (which could happen to any team, any time), the Patriots WILL be in the playoffs, most likely as a division winner home game. And, they WILL be a team that the other franchises will have to "deal with" if they want to get to the Superbowl. It's just reality.

Thing you can count on:
The Sun rises. The Sun sets. The sky is blue. The Patriots will be in contention during a playoff run.

I was only saying the Patriots are not guaranteed to win (or even play in) the Super Bowl because of a historical fun fact.

Yes, I do remember that. I also know we are better on both offense and defense than we were that day.

I wasn't replying to anyone's opinion in particular with  my post. I was just stating my own opinion about early season games as a whole and the Patriots in particular   (which most already understand and agree with themselves). 

I've heard Cris Collinsworth and Phil Simms on numerous occasions over the years state that September is the great "Fooler's Month"; meaning that the way the games work out in the first month, and which teams look good and those that look bad in September is not always what ends up being true in December. 



The Patriots will be there in the playoffs, if only for the fact that the AFCE does not look to have any other team to seriously push the Pats for a division title. It "could" happen though, you never know. I just don't see it right now.

The only way New England does not make the playoffs is a catastrophic injury to Tom Brady. That was how they missed it in 2008.

Fooler's Month

FWIW, those 3 openers NE lost to go on SB runs were road games, not home games. Which for that team, makes a difference. They've been the best home team in the NFL for years.

The Patriots are fortunate that they are in a much weaker division than the Chiefs.  Barring the injury factor moving forward,  the Patriots should end up with a better record than the Chiefs despite what happened the other night.
