Yes, penalties are a killer. It's a team ge, you can't blame everything on Blake. But, today, he gets most of the blame for sure (yes, there were other things too,, but BB was the main culprit,,,, terrible today).

(09-17-2017, 05:54 PM)Etdavis2006 Wrote: [ -> ]I don't think you read my statement fully. 44 PASSING yards. Yes we are stacking the box, so that should set up plenty of 1 on 1's for the qb to attack. 44 passing yards against a stacked box in the first quarter isn't going to cut it.

No I did, it's just that passing success isn't what is going to unstack the box. No one is going to be double teaming Hurns or Lee they aren't Julio or OBJ. The only way we are going to get the box unstacked with the personnel we have is by putting more WRs in and spreading the field more.

There is a difference between a stacked box and a base defense. If we go to a base offense of 12 or 11 personnel that does not mean the defense is immediately stacking their linebackers over the gaps and bringing a safety in the box. You stack the box when you are intentionally keying in on the run. A stacked box would indicate you are playing single high safety behind it and very few teams can play that way all game because most competent qbs will eat that up.

Spreading the offense out will only expose blake even more. He can't complete passes against man coverage. He will have pick 6's against a team playing zone all game. You don't throw more when you have a guy who can't throw. Do not be fooled by the last few drives of the game. The defense was in prevent by that point. I know we are trying to take the blame off of Blake but its the same thing. Until we get a guy who can even make simple routine passes and that can operate an NFL playbook our offense will look like this. Watching Blaine then Blake should have taught you this.

You have to be able to throw out of your base offense. That is basic football. If we can not throw and run from the same formations then we will continue to suck. This is the on the qb.

Yea they scored their first TD at about the half way mark of the 3rd qtr.

Agreed, but you can't constantly keep putting your QB's back against the wall. Especially an already struggling QB at that.

First of all we have a QB who isnt reliable at make 3rd a longs

The OL was bad, too many penalties moving us back, not gonna blame them on the running game Tenn has like 9 in the box

We have a number 1 TE that cant catch or beat his man one on one, I have no idea why we didnt sign or draft a proven pass catching TE their were plenty out there. When you have a bad QB at least give him a good TE that can catch.

Defense held them and held them but its 90 degrees out there and they got tired, MM didnt have a good game passing but he made key pass in key situation like a good QB can do, we dont have that.

We are just not gonna be able to hid Bortles every game, and expect the running game to run wild vs 8 man fronts and expect the defense to force 4 TOs

Good post.

BTW, we did sign a fairly proven pass catching TE in Michael Rivera, but unfortunately we had to place him on IR.

And no they didn't have to dig deep into their playbook, but that's one of the league's better offenses we just faced with the disparity in TOP wearing out our defense. The D had nothing left to give in the fourth quarter.... that or they just flat gave up.
Special? Although TE Delanie Walker scored his first career rushing touchdown from one yard out in the third quarter, (kinda special, a first anyway) they did have an effective game plan and managed to execute. They stopped the run and pounded the ball themselves. Between the heat, and TOP, the Jags defense was gassed late in the game.

It was probably a bit of both, the D was gassed but they also gave up.

When we got the ball back at some point in the third quarter (I think after they scored the 16-3) Campbell stepped up to Blake and seemed to encourage him, telling him something.
He was probably going something like "give us a bit of hope, score on this drive and the D will get back full force on the drive after it".
But the offense failed again and as the D came back on the field they had a different attitude and showed signs of them giving up.

It happens, no defense can have the opponents start in our territory for multiple drives over and over again.
I can't blame it all on Blake. The horrible amount of penalties that turned into drive killers on top of the playcalling which left a lot to be desired.
Nothing special?

Lol okay. Good luck with your mayonnaise baths and such.

I actually think the nothing special comment is a compliment. When smashmout does not need to be exotic it is more safe. And aginst a stout D it still is effective. We saw this against Den, KC, and Miami last year. Just strap it up and and see who is more physical. Football is all about line play and TN strength is right there on both lines.
Well... when your offense gives them short fields of less than 50 yards...
they shouldn't have to do much special.

But hey... we get to play the #lostcuzofIrma card right?

Congratulations on figuring out the point of the thread, genius.

The thread title wasn't supposed to be a knock on your team's offense, but a knock on our offense for putting our defense repeatedly in bad, backed up situations. They can only keep it close for so long when that happens repeatedly.

Penalties on the offense and Bortles' inability to dig his way out of the hole put the Jags defense in crap position too many times.
The Jags do have a good defense but only that can do so much when the offense is useless.
