So, we all know what happens when you need 3 yards to sustain a winning drive, and you throw a wide receiver bubble screen behind the line of scrimmage? If you are the Jags...you lose.
So in this game. we need 3 yards, and Bortles throws it to Walters who is running across the middle. Sounds like a a great idea...much better than a wide receiver screen. However, There was absolutely no separation between Walters and the defender covering him. Why be so determined to make a camel fit through the eye of a needle? You mean to tell me that was the best we could come up with? There were no other receivers open, or had the ability to get open? Not even a little zig or zag to get a couple of yards separation so there is a "chance" that the receiver can catch the ball? That ball should not have been thrown to Walters. Bortles could have attempted to scramble. Looks like JT was open in the middle of the field, idk, couldn't tell from the replays. Might have been the gameplan to go Walters, I would think so since Bortles tried to make it fit. But it definitely was not the right call. I'll take your comments off the air.
He panicked and threw the ball. No one was open when he threw but if he waited maybe but at the same time, if he waited he may have gotten sacked so.......

That's definitely a new one on me.
They showed the replay right after, like they tend to do on game-defining plays. Walters was very clearly the most open guy, and he was blanketed. Blake waited as long as he could.
Bortles had another week of throws that make me even more comfortable saying QB is our biggest concern, once again, going into the offseason. The 4th and 3 wasn't his fault.
We don't have a Aaron Rodgers to scan then field and find better options. What we got is a one read spread option QB.

Is our receiving core overrated then? Robinson can high-point the ball. And Hurns can take a lick'n and keep on tick'n. Lee has some speed. How come no one can get 2 yards of separation?
Looked like everyone was well covered to me
The real problem was the third down play. If they already knew they were going for it on fourth down they shouldn't have gotten cute with the play call on third. Just go goal line formation and qb sneak it in there if you want to run on short yardage. They ran a dumb third down play and made forth down a harder play to convert because of it.
He lacks confidence right now and looking over at Gus on the sideline at crucial game deciding times in the game doesn't help at all.
He could have ran for the first down by the looks from the replay.

Lee should've been on the drag, not Walters. They doubled ARob, and Hurns was slow due to that ankle injury.

It was the right read, and should have been caught.
NO ONE picks up each other, especially Blake. How often has someone "made a play" this year? 3 passes/drops/ that could have/should have been caught today.
Hackett called a pretty good game but the draw play on 3rd and 1 and the subsequent basic call on 4th and 3 were bad.

Yeah, 3rd and one was a bad play call. Knew it was coming.

Valid questions. My main concern was the routes being run. On 4th and 3, the 5 yard crossing route by Walters was easily the shortest route. I'm gonna look again to be sure my memory's not failing, but I hated the play call. I think a greg olson stylie shotgun draw play there would've been a better choice considering how we were running the ball vs how Bortles had been throwing the ball.

I thought they should have run Ivory on 2nd down, and again on third down if need be. And not out of the gun.
They should have been able to get the short yardage conversion that way and if they still have to pass on 4th I'd rather see quick slants or comeback routes than the patterns they put out there.

That wasn't on Walters or Bortles tbh. Hackett if anyone for 2 consecutive crap calls, but that 4th down play was just great defense. Bortles threw a wobbly duck to the best spot where walters would've had a chance, but the defender was in his hip pocket from the get-go.
