Quote:1. House- If we keep House he will be a 6 mil. cap hit for the next 2 years and if we cut him it will be no dead money. No brainer
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonville-...ouse-7850/
2. Parnell- Will be no dead money and will save a 6.5 mil dollar cap hit next year. No brainer
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonville-...nell-8941/
3. J. Thomas - Will be 3.6 mil in dead money but will way worth what we save. If we keep Thomas it will be a 8.3 mil cap hit, only to go up the following year to a 9.8 mil cap hit and then in 2019 to a 10.3 mil cap hit
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/jacksonville-...omas-7848/
4. Skuta- If we cut Skuta it will be no dead money. If we keep Skuta it will be a 4.1mil cap hit for the next 3 years. The only way I can see us keeping him is for depth. Would be good but really expensive depth, would rather spend the money elsewhere.

Odrick and Lewis are 2 others I thought about bout I would keep both. Cutting these 4 players would be only be 3.6 mil in dead money and would free up 24.5 mil. I think these decisions should be a no brainer for whoever our GM is. Thoughts?
This is a bit early for some, but it does bring some interesting scenarios for Dave.
House makes too much money, but Prince is only on a 1-year deal. We could potentially head into next season with just Ramsey and Colvin as starting level corners.
Parnell doesn't really have anyone behind him.
Julius has been really disappointing. He's been non-existent in the passing game and it would not surprise me if a lot of our run/pass block failures is because of him. But we then go back to Marcedes getting older.
Keep in mind that we still have the 2nd most cap space heading into next season. And with the stumble that Blake and Allen had, it delays the need to resign them (if Dave is even here)

I disagree that it is too soon to talk about this since the season might as well be over. As a long-time Jag fan, it is sad to say that the off-seasons have been more entertaining than the regular season since at least we can dream about great drafts and free agents.
As far as guys to let go, Skuta, House and Parnell are all good choices. All were bad moves by Caldwell- who is looking more and more like a G.M on his way out. I would also think strongly about Beachum. The remainder of this season will determine his fate, but I have a hunch he is not happy here. Can't really blame him after being with the Steelers. I think they should keep Prince and just hope he can stay healthy. Joeckel will be gone since he'll find one team crazy enough to overpay him and then he'll become a pro-bowler like Reggie Nelson and Brandon Marshall,

The only names being thrown around here that make any real sense to let go before any offseason work out bonuses are due would be House and Henne. Letting House go actually leaves the roster shallow at the position, but his play has been bad enough to force new blood to be acquired at CB.
The rest you keep around until you have a clear direction (from hopefully a new staff) and then the roster will get sorted after FA and draft. Some of the names people are bashing are good depth and not any major cap liability.
Parnell's salary could see him moving on IF the right moves are made to replace him and provide depth. Otherwise he may compete against a youngster and remain as overpaid depth. It happens, and it's not the end of the world for a year or two.

Blow the whole thing up and start completely over. Get rid of the entire front office and coaching staff. Completely change out the uniforms and helmets. And get rid of the majority of players however keep 15-20 of them. Linder, the WRs for now, Jack, Telvin, Poz, Ramsey, a few of the dlineman, Nortman has been good, a few more..... the rest can go.

This team has oodles of cap space. If they're cutting players because it saves them 4 million on the salary cap then they're a bunch of morons.
11-07-2016, 05:55 PM
A lot of you are going to be disappointed when we only cut like 3 players
11-07-2016, 07:32 PM
I doubt they cut too much before training camp. Who knows how these players might be used in a different scheme.
11-07-2016, 07:45 PM
If Dave gets another year I dounbt they cut any. We would need to bring in a new GM most likely for these guys to get the axe

There's nothing wrong with the roster, only how they are used.

Oh yeah...we need to lose the 4 million dollar clip board mentor.....draft a decent qb (please not in first or even second) and give Allen more work.
Send bb5 to QB school for as long as possible.
Maybe then we can have a good bunch of QBs

I paid particular attention to Parnell on Sunday and he was a couple of notches below awful. My God, you could have put a mannequin in there in pass protection and he would have been just as effective.

He seems to have gotten lazy compared to last year when he was at least solid around 70- 80% of the time. Maybe that second bonus check stole his motivation:/

Parnell has declined as bad as any on the roster. The guy wasnt great by any means last year but played decent. This year he has been horrible

Questions to ask yourself before commenting on salaries, caps and cuts:
Is it your money?
Do the Jaguars need to cut costs right now?
Where is the help?
Why does is it upset you that someone is making lots of money?
Do you know how much money is pouring into the league from broadcasting deals?
Do you realize how big the cap limit is in relation to the Jags expenses?
Are there replacements for these players?
What time of year is it?
Of the players you mentioned, Parnell is the only one making significantly more money than other players at his position. Parnell ranks 6th in salary for a right Tackle and is probably middle of the pack in talent. I don't understand the total hatred of Parnell. Maybe it's because the average person doesn't know what to look for when grading a tackle, but he's not a bad player although there seems to be some regression I hope he can bounce back from. Overpaid, relatively yes, however, by next year he will probably be out of the top 10.
Julius Thomas Total Cash is actually 10th highest among TE's right now and he's not bad. Dwayne Allen is #1 at 12mil for 2016 so fathom that. The Jags aren't the only ones overpaying mediocre players, so try not to go crazy over it.
**House is 33rd(CB's) and Skuta 36th (OLB's)
I'm in no way justifying Caldwell's aggressiveness of mediocre free agent acquisition. I do however see a ton of praise when Caldwell brings them all over in March. The only player I consider truly terrible is Skuta, the rest you can argue overpayment all day. Overpayment is a league-wide problem. House is fairly inexpensive for a veteran player who makes the same amount of mistakes any average corner makes.

Keep Julius...
Cut Skuta...
House and Parnell have some proving to do this season if they are to be kept.

Don't cut Thomas. Get some new coaches.
In fact, don't cut anybody. Get some new coaches and let them decide.
