Full Version: Shaun O'Hara: Jaguars had #2 offensive line in Week 5

I read this one every week because the unit is much improved from what we are used to watching. This is the Week 5 edition:

Quote:Jacksonville Jaguars: The Jaguars looked quite impressive on the road, riding rookie RB Leonard Fournette (along with an inspired defensive performance) to a 30-9 win over Pittsburgh. Jacksonville had 313 yards of total offense, with a whopping 231 coming on the ground. Fournette, the No. 4 overall pick in April's draft, had a huge day with 181 yards, including one 90-yard touchdown run. There's no better feeling than breaking a long run when you're trying to run out the clock. Fournette averaged 6.5 yards per carry on the day, finishing with a pair of scores.

It's crazy that a team can win when the quarterback completes just eight passes -- EIGHT -- for 95 yards. (Although, it does help when the opposing QB throws five interceptions.) Blake Bortles, who had one pass attempt (zero completions) in the second half, was sacked twice in the win. One sack was attributed to a missed block by the running back. The second occurred when the O-line collapsed on an inside twist game. All in all, the Jags allowed one QB hit and five total pressures.

O-Line is much better that's a fact. The Pass blocking is the real improvement. In the run game I think most the work is being done by our RB's. The run blocking has not been that consistent but 4net is just that good. There has not be to many BIG GAPS for our RBs.

(I also think 4net looks to use his spin move way to often and to early into contact, which may lead to taking a really nasty knee twist.)
False sense of security. The offensive line still is below average.

It's easy to look good in the pass game when there aren't a lot of passes. The few passes that we do throw are screens or inside of 10 yards. If a quarterback has to actually take 5 step drops, you will see a big dip in performance. Pass protection isn't the actual weakness of the line, however. In the run game we get very little push and the few holes we do open up are tiny and close quickly. It's rare that this line actually opens a gaping hole like the one Fournette took yard on Sunday. Hunt sees those holes open up more in one game than Fournette has seen all year.

You cannot honestly tell me they are not better than last year. Yes I agree the run blocking is not great and needs a lot of work but the line overall is better than last year.
Our OL has been great all year top rushing team not giving up sacks, but on Madden 18 our OL is terrible even in the latest roster update, they had Linder at 77 lol

Yeah, I don't get it.  Linder and Cam are way underrated on that game.  I think they just go by pff rankings now and pff has our oline rated poorly.  I wish they could come up with some ratings by themself also like they used to and just not use pff only.  It's where the bad rankings come from
But but but PFF said Cam sux.

Noobs.

Obviously. I don't care how often Blake Bortles drops back; the fact that he was never sacked in two of our first five games is proof we have improved our pass blocking.

Run blocking has also improved to an extent, but not totally on the offensive line. Having a real fullback and upgrading the TE2 position help in that area.

Yes, they are better. They still aren't good. Cam is an upgrade and Parnell has improved a little bit. Cann has had a few flash plays here and there.

The fact that you believe him not being sacked in two games is definitive proof is a logical fallacy. Obviously it's something in which you've grown a strong familiarization.

I know for a fact by watching games Blake Bortles was not sacked at all in two of them.

BTW I don't believe everything I read.
I'm going to go talk to a wall now.

This is how good they are, they boosted Bohanon's up 11 points last week.  I guess they finally realized they guy is a good blocker.

Tommy Bohanon is not included in OL rankings, which is the point of this thread. Good for him being a nice blocker though.
