Quote:While Bortles has struggled, the WRs are dropping easy catches too though. That 4th down pass Hurns dropped in KC was a beautiful ball
So/ were some other incomplete passes I have seen this season. I still do not understand why people think it is Blake's fault that perfect passes are dropped.
Quote:Lee is no where near as tough as Hurns. But he's clearly a more gifted athlete and he's becoming the better NFL receiver of the two.
This should be no shock given the draft position of the two and should be a welcome (if overdue) development.
Doesn't matter though. Hurns' toughness in the slot (despite Bortles leading him into big hits too often) and Lee's speed outside make them complimentary players. It doesn't matter which is "better." They both bring something vital to the table.
How is this? Hurns still has 1 more yard than Lee and ARob plus 2 TDs to Lee's 0. Does Lee know what the endzone looks like? Ill take the better player than can find the endzone any day of the week make tough catches and put up more yards. Draft position has nothing to do with the 2 as players. Hurns had the worst game of his career last week and got concussed. Hurns is a warrior though and will be back sooner than later
Quote:How is this?
First of all - Lee has 2 drops on 49 targets. Hurns has 5 drops on 60 targets. One of Hurns' drops may have cost us the game in KC.
He's also been more consistently open this season than Hurns has been. Throw in that he's clearly much faster than Hurns and yes, he's emerging as a better receiver than Allen Hurns.
I'm not sure why people get bothered by this. He's supposed to be a better receiver than Allen Hurns. It doesn't diminish Hurns' talent. I'm a huge Allen Hurns fan, but I can recognize that Lee is a superior athlete that's coming into his own in the league now that he's stayed healthy enough to get acclimated. I'm sure Hurns would be shining brighter than he is with a better QB that doesn't lead him into traffic so often. But at the same time Lee would have 3 or 4 TDs this year if Bortles ever hit him in stride.
Currently - Hurns needs to catch those balls that
ARE catchable and he's not doing that enough this year.
What happened to Hurns double move? It was a thing of beauty. Sure like to see it again sometime.
Quote:Jerry Sullivan is a great coach, its up to the players to use their speed and create separation.
Recognition, footwork, hands, and route running create separation. All of these are taught skills and the reason why skilled receivers seem faster than their clocked times.
I think half of it is not having a QB who can "throw open" WRs along with having a bunch of the same type of WRs. It has been a long time since Jimmy Smith, and even the great Justin Blackmon was more of a possession WR.

Agreed on everything besides the very last clause.
The lack of a consistent running game has an enormous affect on the passing game as well. The running game doesn't just allow the play-action passing game, it forces the hesitation of a CB/S before they get into their coverage as well.

Blake is missing WIDE OPEN receivers down field. He's missed 2 TDS today alone.
