Any defensive lineman would tell you sacks are overrated. In fact the sack category did not exist until the 1980s.

Don't get me wrong, I love sacks and know how important they are.

Please just leave. Seriously.

Show me a quote where a defensive lineman said sacks are overrated.  Let alone ALL defensive linemen.  You say some of the most ridiculous crap and state it as fact.  It's extremely annoying.

I read it years ago. One of the players who said it is J.J. Watt.

Apparently JJ Watt speaks for every defensive lineman now. He’s their representative? Was there an election for that position? Who did he beat out to be able to speak for every defensive lineman??

I need answers!!!!
Hope she sticks around for a bit, nothing else really attracts me to these forums these days

Not sure why you would think that. I did not say J.J. Watt speaks for all DL. A few weeks ago Watt said he is not worried about having no sacks and explained why, so if nothing else you can read that story. Several DEs have said something along the lines of "It is not about sacks," with an explanation that much of what they do to affect QBs is not on stat sheets.

I know how important sacks are. Notice my member title is Sacksonville Fan. Calais Campbell is one of my favorite Jaguars. I am just pointing out the fact that we need to go beyond sacks and look at everything, including TFL (tackles for loss)a and what goes on behind thee LOS.

You claim sacks aren’t important to any defensive lineman because you read that JJ Watts said they weren’t. You realize it just means sacks aren’t important to jj Watts, it doesn’t mean if you asked ANY defensive linemen you would get the same answer.
I did not say that Bunnie. My point was you can't just go by sacks when judging how good or bad a DL is. The whole picture matters. Does anyone ever talk about TFLs, pressure, or hurries? What about knockdowns? It is sacks, sacks, sacks, like nothing else matters, when people judge DL. That is not right. Judge DL on everything including sacks.

Did you not write that any defensive lineman would tell you they are over rated?

That is not the same as saying they are irrelevant.

You said they all felt that way because you remember an article where jj watt said they were overrated. My point was that just because he said they were overrated, it didn’t mean that every player feels that way.
Certainly have no dog in this fight, but I found this, FWIW.

There you go. Marvin Lewis has a defensive background, so it is certainly worth something.

The point is that you said.
Quote:Any defensive lineman would tell you sacks are overrated. In fact the sack category did not exist until the 1980s.

Part of that statement is false while the other part might be true.

The false part is that "any defensive lineman...".  You cited an article that you read by one which doesn't speak towards the many.

The true part could possibly be the fact that the sack category did not exist until the 1980's.  I'm too lazy to look it up right now and I really don't care.

The bottom line here is to stay on topic!

Now let's get this thread back on topic.
Who thinks Calais Campbell will finish the year with 15 sacks?
Sacks are by far the most important stat in today's NFL. It's a passing league. Hitting the QB controls the game. Campbell will probably demolish Brackens team record.
