That was because the impeachment effort was a blatantly bullhonkey partisan move by a Republican Congress that hated Clinton for standing in their way.
The difference is that Hillary probably actually did some of what she's accused of, and what she's accused of is far worse than keeping an intern under your desk.
First off, impeachment does not automatically punt the President. Bill Clinton was impeached, but survived the rest of his second term.
Second, we need to know a lot about Tim Kaine as a vice president because that is the job people will elect for. As long as Hillary Clinton keeps her job, assuming she wins, his only constitutional duty is breaking ties in the Senate.

Republicans sued Hillary Clinton last year, so their goal was obviously preventing her from getting elected. If Congress was blue this scandal never would have occurred.

We need to worry about what the VP will do as the VP. It is very unlikely Tim Kaine will end up becoming the acting President, so there is no reason to worry about that scenario before he is elected.
