Quote:Are there any other left tackles worth taking in the first round? If not, should the Jags trade back for extra picks?
Currently I would say no. I don't believe this will be a strong draft for offensive linemen in the first round.

If the team has a chance at Fournette, Garrett, Peppers or Allen they should take it imo

I agree. Idk about any PFF grades or stuff like that. I don't pay attention to that stuff.

What I see with my eyes when I'm watching him play is that he's just not that good. I'm not sure what most everyone else sees. I see him getting beat, and committing stupid penalties.

Maybe he is better than most of the guys Jax has had at RT the past few seasons, but that's not saying much at all. Very low bar set there.
Pass blocking has held up more than good enough, at least until we are down enough scores that the dline is pinning their ears back.

Run blocking has been bad, but not many run games are successful right out of the gate each game. The run game requires a lot of attempts and time of possession to get the chunk yards later in the game. Until we can sustain some drives early in the game I can't really say.

Essentially, it's impossible to know with Blake playing so bad early/until the game is out of hand.

Also, Omameh has been quite solid not sure why people are knocking him so bad.

Surprised Parnell is garnering so much flak. I thought he's been better this year in pass pro.

Run blocking I have no idea how to even determine who stinks. Everything about it stinks.

Cann feels like the major regression to me.
Worst line in football.  Stats don't lie. Have we passed AP's single game rushing record yet?

Idk what it is with our oline. Run blocking is supposed to be the "easy" blocking. The type of stuff your line loves to do is go maul someone in th erun game. i don't know if its scheme, lack of time to gel, or what.. But I feel like our line should be getting much better push up front than they are.

Mark Brunell said they are "Solid"...

I don't necessarily think Brunell is wrong.

Watching the game on TV we don't get to see every play the way you can with the all-22.

From what I see, Parnell seems to be the weak link on the line.
Numerous times, I've seen Cann turn to his left in response to a perceived blitz, wind up blocking air, leaving a DT with a free run at Bortles.

He turns to his left, and there's no one there!  Meanwhile, the DT who was lined up on him is making a beeline for Bortles!   I've seen this in several different games.

It is so aggravating to see things like that.   Our offensive line is so easily confused, just like the rest of our team.

I don't know if these guys have talent or not.  We need better coaching.

Yes, but creating a running game isn't about getting "push."   I hate that term.   You don't just line up and push your guy.   There's a lot of technique involved, and they have to react on the fly to how the defensive line rushes forward.

I think part of the problem is coaching, and part of it is that we haven't really invested high draft picks in offensive linemen.   Teams like Dallas put a lot more emphasis on acquiring offensive linemen.   I remember a few years ago, San Francisco had an incredible running game, but they had THREE FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICES on their offensive line.

Of course, we tried investing a high draft pick with Luke Joeckel, and he was a bust, but you can't just give up.

Parnell went from promising to bad in a year... ranking him behind a failed LT turned LG that is on IR is pretty sad lol

I reserve my right to wait till we see what Hackett can do with the running game.   Olsen strong suit was never running the ball.

I see what you did there
As a whole, our o-line simply isn't getting the job done. We have more than adequate running backs. The problem is our o-line consistently fails to open holes for the backs to run through. Half the time they get met before they can even reach the line!

As a result, we have no threat of a running game and become essentially 'one dimensional' in our offensive game plan. Our opponents pick up on this and our receivers get double coverage. If forces Bortles to try to force the ball where he shouldn't; the net result is our current situation.

I've heard it said that 'defense wins championships'... perhaps; but someone still has to put points on the board or the greatest defense in the world wouldn't be able to win.

In this matter, more than in any other area, Dave Caldwell has let this franchise down as a GM. He built up all the high visibility positions at the cost of our o-line. We're seeing the results.

Some of you guys are very generous graders. Are we watching the same games?

Parnell - D
Cann - C
Linder - B
Joeckel - D

That's basically about it. We have an average offense line with some below average players. If Caldwell is retained and a new staff comes in they'll have to address this early and often during the off-season. I still expect a QB to be selected in RD3 - RD6 to push Bortles a bit along with Allen too.
