Marrone seems to really like Parnell (which I think it's a decent starter when healthy) and if Albert is there I see them as the starters at tackles. Linder is a lock at C. Omameh played well before the injury last season while Cann struggled and didn't deliver as well as in his rookie season.

With Robinson joining the roster and possibly playing as a OG to start with I think Omameh and Cann will battle it out for the other spot. And I'm not sure Cann gets to keep it easily, he needs to show improvement this year.
There is no competition. If Albert comes back Robinson starts at guard barring injury to Albert.

This, I think Cam ends up at RG
Quote:I never said they do. I said there's talent to be found there.

What I was inferring was there's not a pro bowl level of talent for Gennesy to over come to start for us. Dallas? No. Jax? Possibly

My quote which you originally quoted says I doubt Gennesy comes in and takes the starting OG spot...I admit he should make the roster in the same post.
I figure it will be the same line has last season except Albert and Robinson are subbed in for Beachum and Joeckel respectively. Shatley, Bowanko, Wells, Gennesy, Poutasi, and Omameh will compete for the backup spots.

Quote:You don't bring in a guy who will be making $10m and then not play him if he loses the competition at LT. Likewise, you don't draft an OL at the top of the second round and then not play him if he loses the competition at LT. I think what will happen is essentially the same thing as last year, whichever one of these two don't end up being the LT will be the LG. I think the difference is that this will be a true open competition, whereas last year Beachum was basically guaranteed the job. But either way, the end result will be the same. My prediction for the line is:

Albert-Robinson-Linder-Cann-Parnell

completely agree with this
They like Parnell at RT so if Can don't win LT he will be a G. Hopefully RG cause Cann was better at LG than RG.

I don't know that they necessarily like Parnell at RT, but they certainly feel he's serviceable there. It's very possible they'll like Cam at RT more than they like Parnell at RT.

Listening to Marrone at seasons end was very telling that they like Parnell and he was injured last year which is why he didn't play up to par.

I know... they like him enough that they were not looking to replace him. He's serviceable. But, they still just might like Cam there even more.

I think Cam would better serve the team at LG

I'm not so sure Albert is on the roster in week 1. If he doesn't continue his passive agressive avoidance (or if he does), he may well be cut or traded.
Quote:Not specifically from last year but:

Lael Collins

Bryan Waters

Nate Newton

Jeff Saturday

Jason Peters

That's just a short list of undrafted guys. Point being, OL is one of those positions where it's more common for late round or undrafted guys to have success.

5 or more people with blue eyes were charged with robbery last year in the US.

It's more common for blue eyed people to be charged for robbery.
Good god you guys are taking what I said way out of context.
Albert better get to practice soon, most teams aren't going to throw money st him with his injury history. He is in the same spot Beachum was in last year and Beachum failed to earn a big pay day. This is Alberts last chance to earn a solid pay check before calling it a career. In regards to Cam, I work with a guy that lives and breathes Alabama football and I feel like he does a pretty good job analyzing the roster. He called marlon Humphrey being over drafted in the first, Cam sliding to the second and Tim Williams falling from the top pass rusher all this past off season. His take on Cam was something along the lines that while he is a very gifted tackle, being on arguably the best college team his entire college career and starting for them, he looked almost bored out there. He dominated his first two years and almost packed it in his final year until the end when it came time for draft evaluations. With that being said, from the games I saw of Cam this year, he strikes me as a good run blocker but struggled a little against Barnett who is just a fundamentally sound pass rusher all around and against Marquise Haynes from Ole Miss who is a smaller but lightening quick guy. All this indicates to me that Cam will be starting for a guard position and possibly gets some reps at LT before he fully takes over
Are we satisfied with what we have on the O-Line? Especially, with Albert seemingly playing hardball wanting a new deal? Our line wouldn't be much improved if we have to go with Robinson, Omameh, Linder, Cann, Parnell.

I would have thought with both Elflein and Feeney available in the 3rd, that would have been a no-brainer. (Hope, however, we'll be yelling "SMOOT" in the same way we used to "SCHMENGEEEEEE" after a sack).

Any thoughts on signing Nick Mangold at C and moving Linder to RG where he probably belongs? An O-Line of Albert, Robinson, Mangold, Linder, Parnell would make me feel a whole lot more comfortable.

BTW, the talk of keeping Robinson at LT is a message to Albert that we will move on without him if he decides to hold out. He needs to prove himself here first before we sign him to any long term contract. Another reason to possibly kick the tires on Mangold.

Satisfied? No.

That said...

Albert will be in Camp and will start at LT. He's just using the only piece of leverage he has right now in order to try and get a better deal. It's voluntary workouts, nothing to see here.

Albert's not getting a long term deal, and he'll eventually figure that out. He's nearing the end of his career, and is really just a stop-gap at LT for us. I actually agree completely with JO on this one. Albert will start at LT, Robinson will kick in to LG, and in a year or two when Albert is tapped out, Robinson will slide over to LT.

I'd have preferred Lamp, and I was frustrated when we didn't grab Feeny... but it happened, so... here we are.

Not satisfied, but it IS improved some.
If Gennesy has any hope of starting, let alone making the 53 man roster, he'll have to learn to play with his hand on the ground.

Dave says #Jaguars have enough competition on roster to be fine at left guard.

It's apparent from their FA moves and the draft that they are comfortable being able to accomplish what they want from what they have.

Should there be a late cut after they have a preseason to evaluate, sure. I could see something coming in.

But that assumes two things...

1. Preseason shows them they will come short of expectations

2. There's a viable option to pursue

I'm not worried about Albert at all. He will play.......or he won't get paid. Period. We won't trade or cut him. He wants that money bad as he doesn't have many years left to earn the big bucks. Can't blame him for trying to get more money when he was holding all of the cards. Too bad but WE hold them now and he knows it. It's one of the reasons why we had to draft Cam over Lamp. He may not show for the voluntary stuff but when his money becomes jeopardized, he will fall in line. No worries.
