Quote:Here's my issue with your argument -

Hurns - complete luck job, if they had any idea what he would have been they would have drafted him.

A-Rob - Solid pick.

Linder - Solid pick.

Telvin - solid pick.

Ramsey - Most casual fans would have picked him.

Jack - most casual fans would have picked him.

Outside this small sample you have the fact that the entire 2013 draft was garbage.  At this point in time it looks like bortles is a bust( maybe he can turn it around).  Fowler needs at least another year of evaluation....TJ Yeldon has been underwhelming.  Most of the FA's we have brought in have not been worth the money.

The final point is that this GM still believes in gus bradley....
Every team passed on Hurns, over and over and over. He wasn't drafted because that was the deepest WR class in history.

If I remember right, Caldwell gave Hurns the highest signing bonus ever for an UDFA to come here. Clearly he saw something in order to do that, especially after taking 2 WRs early in that draft.

What about AJ Cann? Aaron Colvin?

Lee is showing some of his ability now that he's healthy.

Ben Koyack is going to be an interesting player to watch going forward.

What about Ngakoue? Still early, but nobody can deny that he has shown his flashes already.

LOL.

That's cute.  Stupid, but still cute.
Quote:Fair points all, but in regard to bolded:

98% of all FAs are overpaid league-wide.  It's a given.

Saying the GM still believes in Bradley is also disingenuous as Khan stated multiple times that he wouldn't fire a coach midseason regardless of record.

If Caldwell truly still believes in Gus at this point - then he needs to hit the bricks with him - but I'd bet good money Caldwell is already preparing his short list of new head coaches.
I don't disagree with anything you said.  But I feel the short list of coaches we could get with a lame duck GM is probably not that great.

Maybe Khan's plan is to let bradley's fate ride with Caldwell...He got an extension for next year, if he sucks it up again, then both GB and DC are gone.  Honestly thinking about that possibility right now it sounds good.

I see your point but I'm not convinced that DC is a lame duck or that he'd necessarily be perceived that way by most coaching candidates.

Clearly - that is very "up in the air."  Caldwell may be gone in January for all we know at this point.

You must also like the thoughts of another possible 3 year roster tear down and rebuild huh?

Caldwell shouldn't be on the hot seat. 7 weeks ago, people were calling him a genius. Now they're calling for his head.  I don't think the next HC needs to worry about Caldwell.
The jags are just plain bad, they don't even look good when they win.  The coaching staff can't adjust to player strengths, don't call the right plays, and can't manage a game.  We are too far into a rebuild to still get such bad football.  Why did we pay all the money to DT and he doesn't contribute much or anything like he did in Denver?   We're stupid with our draft picks and with 75% of our FAs and that goes to coaching and management not the players.

How can you justify passing on Derrick Henry and picking up Myles Jack... our LB group was much better than the RB group and you could have gotten a beast that is also local and maybe able to fire up the fan base.  Poor decision makers, that's the problem.

Derrick Henry wouldn't be able to run behind this line.
well nobody can run behind our line, but that wasn't the point, it's about shoring up a weak RB field.  Plus, the line would be motivated to block or get mowed over from behind and at least they'd fall forward.

You can't pick an RB in the 2nd round in back to back drafts

You sound like J-Dub
Quote:Hire new coach. I'd like it to be someone with NFL head coaching experience.  No more "up-and-coming" young guys.
My, how quickly we forget.

I want the best man for the job. I might have my own opinion as to who that is once the season ends and we start seeing the leaves fall, but at the end of the day, I want the man for the job. That might mean the return of Coughlin (but I strongly, strongly doubt that happens), it might mean a recently-fired head coach, a coordinator with head coaching experience, or a guy who's never run a major college or NFL team before. Once you start throwing filters up like, "Must have NFL head coaching experience", you lock the door on guys like Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy (even, technically, Bruce Arians), and you end up hiring Mike Mularkey.
I'm hoping that Arizona continues to tank and they fire Bruce Arians
Simple.

Step 1. Totally new coaching staff.

Step 2. Give new coaching staff a year with the players that are on the borderline of being busts. We don't have the draft picks to replace them all anyway.

Step 3 A: If some/most of those borderline players are salvageable Caldwell was not part of the problem. Keep on the same path with new coaches.

Step 3 B: If the players are not salvageable, Caldwell was part of the problem and we blow it up, start again and take another step towards becoming the Cleveland Browns.

Chuck Pagano should be available. I'd just like to see a 3-4 coach with a full back on the roster.
