Kirk is still choking away games this year again dont want him.
11-21-2017, 03:48 PM
Cousins would be a marked improvement at the QB position. They had no business even still being close in those games he supposedly choked away.
11-21-2017, 04:27 PM
He just lit up a quietly excellent Saints defense throwing to a bunch of lackluster guys. I’d take him in a heartbeat, contingent that we draft a few QBs high over the next 5 years as well.
11-21-2017, 05:22 PM
There is no way. His price tag is gonna be huge and in a year or so, we'd have to start cutting our best defensive players to stay under the cap, if we signed him. Let some other team deal with that and let's go for one of the talented rookies in this class.

It depends on how we want to look at things..regardless if we sign Cousins or not, A lot of our young start studded defense is about to have their contracts run out. If they keep playing this way there is almost no way to keep this defense together. Like it or not, our super bowl caliber defense window is already starting to close. Do we want to risk a rookie qb, Bortles improving or an instant upgrade for a Super Bowl push next year? We are really in uncharted waters here because we've never had so many guys deserving of a huge pay day. Teams like the Pats, Packers and Saints have been able to get by with having an elite QB and average defenses. Caldwell has to make up his mind soon because unless we have an elite QB we won't be in this position but for about two more years

Kirk is absolutely the type of QB this team needs. Chokes away games? Try again.
He’s accurate, he battles, he’s more athletic than gets credit for and guys loves playing for him. The Redskins are a total hot mess with the OLine, WRs and TE being hurt all the time. Kirk would make the Jags the immediate favorite in the South and the 2nd best team in the AFC.

Maybe you guys are right I won't complain if we sign him thoguh for sure I just don't know when its crunch time he seems to wilt under pressure that is all every time I watch them.

Though his price tag will be huge...this would allow us to use the draft to grab OL/TE/WR rather than just a QB (cause we would have to trade the draft to grab one of the rookies)
If we hit on just a TE/OL in the draft and have Cousins...what holes does this team really have for the next 2 years?
Use Bortles 19M and Ivory(4M) Lewis (3.5M) savings to cover Cousin's cap hit...use the 30M rollover to franchise Arob/cover any additional Cousins contract.
Hurns (7M) could be another cut to free up room...they could feel an ARob/Dede/Cole WR corp is good enough with an improved QB...
After the 2018 season, the only 2 contracts that would need to be renewed would be ARob (if franchised), Fowler Jr, and Yannick (even though he is under contract through 2019...no way they make him play for 1M the way he has been producing).
After the 2019 season is when contracts become tight...Ramsey/Jack will need to be resigned but Campbell/Dareus/Jackson or some combo of them will likely be let go.
In short, I think with Cousins we could keep the team/D together for 2 years with him before we would need to purge off major talent.

I agree. The team is trying to win now. If the Jags were clearly going ot get an upgrade in the draft then maybe, but right now they are drafting in the 20s. I say go all in. Letting good players go because you cannot resign them because you have too many good players is a good problem to have and even better problem when you have a competent QB.
That being said, can you imagine having someone who can throw to Robinson - Hurns - Westbrrok - Cole - Lee with Fournette in the backfield. WOW. Dangerous D would get a dangerous O to go along with it.

I would be all for signing Cousins. Bortles isn't the worst QB in the league, but this team would be unstopable with a real top 10 guy like Cousins.
11-21-2017, 08:51 PM
You could make a strong argument that signing Cousins would be the best thing we could do this offseason to win a super bowl. There are other options of course but I can see a world where Tom/Dave believe this to be true and move the earth to land him.

I'm not sure where the Cousins hate is coming from. He's averaging 256 / game throwing to a bunch of nobodies. He's at 17 TDs and 5 INTs through 10 games while having the 18th ranked rush offense. They've never had a rushing offense higher than 18th since he's been starting. Give him Fournette, and one of them will flourish.

Is that like how Calais was going to Denver?

Cousins would be intriguing, but I say "no." Jags will need to re-sign several key players in the next few years. They need to keep as many defensive players as possible and signing Cousins would make that very difficult. Of equal importance is the fact he is not a great quarterback. Yes, he is much better than Bortles however there will be several other less expensive options during the off-season. If Cousins had the talent of a top 5 quarterback, that would be a different story. I'm not even sure he'd get into the top 10 and options like Mason Rudolph, Baker Mayfield and Tyrod Taylor could get this team to the Super Bowl for much less money. We can't forget when the Jaguars had to release guys like McCardell, Boselli and others due to being in salary cap hell. This current Jaguars' team can be a solid playoff contender for at least 5 years if it continues to make the right moves. Signing Cousins is just too risky.

I wouldn't mind Cousins. But I think the more likely choice is going to end up being Eli Manning if the ownership in New York is foolish enough to retain McAdoo and allow him to draft their future signal caller in just five months from now. We could get Manning on a better deal than Cousins and we could still look to draft our future and develop him for a year or two. Which is what I honestly prefer.
Eli would be walking into a winnable division. He'll inherit presumably the top defense in the NFL next year. He'll have Fournette as well and hopefully a healthy mix at receiver with Robinson, Lee, Hurns, Westbrook and Cole all ready to roll. Plus an entire off-season of possibly drumming up even more big name free agents to add depth and starter quality to the team and another draft. This is a prime location now for any QB. But if the price is everyone's concern. Cousins isn't the best choice if you want to keep the pieces you already have.

Would love Cousins, would be are best option if we are picking in the late 20s

I like Cousins, but pretty sure his receiving corps isn't made up of "nobodies" . When healthy, Reed is a top target, Crowder is an above average receiver, and Doctson is a former first rounder who has had injury trouble.

The salary cap and trade compensation combination are why I would be surprised if the Jaguars end up with Kirk Cousins in 2018. I'm expecting the Redskins to use the Franchise Tag on him again, if they don't work out a long term contract. Because of supply and demand at the QB position, Cousins' long term contract could easily exceed the one Matthew Stafford signed with the Lions in late July.
