The thought of him having some nagging injury came up last week in our office after the raider game. I am sure many QBs have played through injury out of fear of being unseated by the back up. His release is all off. His delivery is so varied on every throw. Something is clearly wrong.

I disagree that he's injured. My only rationale for this is just how comfortable he looked second half when the reigns were off.

I think it's just that he has no confidence in Olsens play calling and the frustration comes out in his game. When he's calling the plays from no huddle he seems to have supreme confidence and will keep plays alive believing they will work.

Take that 3rd down conversation where he spun out of 2 near tackles and completed the third down to koyack. If that was the first half I think he just would of Gabberted down on the first challenge almost as a way to say to Olsen 'seriously this play?' When he's calling his own plays he is determined to make them work and it shows, he gets his feet set and plays well.

Psychologically it makes sense, QBs have to be supremely confident to play that position, borderline arrogant, if he loses that confidence due to his OC it's logical it will show.

Good points.   Yet,  Blake Bortles'  massive amount of inconsistency could be a combination of what you mentioned and an injury being a factor.   Sometimes,  the mind is willing but the body isn't.    When a player sometimes has an injury,  what works on one player under similar circumstances won't work on another play.

Yeah I get what you're saying D6 I just can't understand the change in the second half though, I mean I know it was prevent d but he just looked so much better and more natural. Maybe like you say an injury that's he's just not willing to play through for Olson, but he is for himself.

I don't know, I just think whatever it is i hope it gets resolved.

Please promise me you beat the Texans this week D6!
The reason he trained with Tom House is because his old form made his arm sore after periods with no breaks. Maybe his poor form is causing issues again?

Yes, Blake was missing throws. That is undeniable, but the O-Line was terrible as well! Not only couldn't they run block at all, but we might as well have taken them all off the field and used police tape to secure the O-Line. Blake would've gotten just as much protection. My question is this, if Blake has regressed this bad and he's unfixable, what do we do. This is a terrible year for drafting QB's. There simply isn't anything out there. I've watched Deshone Kizer and he's been abysmal and Deshaun Watson is not an NFL QB. He's one of those running QB's that looks great in college, but I don't believe he can adapt to a pro system. With that said, it leaves two other options. We could go all in on a free agent QB like Kirk Cousins or Mike Glennon (the only two free agent QB's worth making a run at) or we gamble on Brandon Allen starting. None of these sound like very good options to me.

One thing that probably should be looked at closely is why has the Jaguars Offense regressed so much this season,  compared to the 2015 season?   Greg Olson was the team's OC last season.   Blake Bortles made more than his share of mistakes but he made many more big plays.    For what it's worth,  Olson got more out of Joey Harrington than any Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach did during his time with the Lions.   Olson wasn't the team's OC long enough for me to conclude whether he was truly a long term solution.   But in the two seasons that he had limited opportunities to run the Offense,  he got good results comparably speaking to the others that had the same opportunities in those two seasons ( 2004 and 2005 ).

There's no question that the Jaguars top priority needs to be getting Blake Bortles back in the right direction.    This is not the same Bortles that I raved about his natural abilities in the two pre-season games the Lions and Jaguars played against each other in 2014 and 2015.

I wish I could promise you that the Lions will beat the Texans this weekend.    Injuries at CB,  particularly with Darius Slay likely out of the game with a hamstring injury,  are a potential major obstacle to victory.    Ideally though,  the game will come down to the play of the two starting QBs.    If that happens,  the Lions should win the game.    The Texans are 4-0 at home but the Lions are now playing with a great amount of confidence in crunch time because of 3 straight comeback 4th QTR wins.    My expectation is yet another close game for the Lions,  regardless of the outcome.     The previous 7 games were decided by 7 points or less.

One thing in this game that was apparent on this end was the problems that LG Patrick Omameh had.   I'm not sure if the Jaguars have a better option on the bench or the Practice Squad.  But that's a position that probably will be needed to be upgraded in a major way in 2017.
Quote:so who did the rookie learn from? The ghost?
The coach?

You do realise that backup qbs aren't coaches right? Big Ben didn't get coached by Tommy Maddox.
While his mechanics obviously need work. The constant second and 9s in first halves are killing us.

Then we throw for 9 yards on first down, ivory makes a mess of 2nd and 1 and then Allen Robinson makes a mess of 3rd and 3. But everyone blames Bortles for throwing where he should be
It's indecision. I don't think it's injuries. Sims ripped this entire team a new one last night on National Television. So did Sanders and Cowher. He's regressed. Even Sims notices that when he throws from his hip with the longer wind-up, as ugly as it may look, he seems to be able to get the football somewhat closer or right on his intended target. But other than that. He's pressing too much at times.

Underrated, and never had the weapons Bortles has.

Look at this accuracy and ball placement. He throws the ball like a real QB:
