I didn't know about all of the converted guards. I just had a bad taste in my mouth because it didn't work here

I think the Jags wanted to cut ties with JT more than anything else(he got fat, lazy, low effort at times, and most importantly injuries). imo Albert will move to Guard, take his current deal, or he will ride the pine/holdout or get cut. Wasn't a fan of bringing him here in the 1st place. We really could have used a G in the 5th though. Time will tell on who will pan/who won't.

What did we learn? This offense will be transformed. The ST's will be much better. This defense will be fast and dominant. This Draft covered ALOT.

Drafting big school players as well for most part.  So showing Coughlin believes level of competition matters.

To be fair, Caldwell has been doing that as well.

Jags were #1 in man blocking schemed run plays in pre-contact yards.

The fact that we were at and near the botom in everything else is more telling IMO.

We have done some good things this off season.  As much as we would all like us too, you can NOT fix every hole on the team in one off season.  Even the Patriots have holes on their roster.  You have to hope that some of your stronger positions are strong enough to cover those holes up as much as possible. 

 

Lastly it's also clear as day that we have gone all in with Blake, which we should have.  Best case scenario he improves and looks like the answer long term, worst case scenario he doesn't improve, and we are looking for a quarterback in a strong quarterback class next year.  I think that it's also obvious that the organization blames Gus' coaching style/environment for the majority of the problems our team had last year.  Hopefully under new leadership, our young players finally take that step and start to live up to the hype/potential. 

 

A lack of standards and accountability can and will ruin just about any organization.

To be fair, based on the chart, the Jags were 15th in Inside Zone, 19th in Outsize Zone and 26th in Power.  I'd agreed they were "at or near the bottom" for Power but they were 1 team better than the median for IZ and only 4 teams behind the median for OZ.

 

Maybe the front office knows more about this team than we do.  Plus what kind of blocking scheme were they running or trying to run, and did it change with the changing of O-Coordinators mid-season?

 

On top of that, the O-Line was mostly serviceable last year (which these stats would seem to support).

O-Line was "serviceable" on pass, but failed on run. We should have some push this year, hopefully.

With the league going with smaller and faster DEs and LBs I think this power run scheme we are going with we can take advantage of a lot of the defenses in the league when we punch them in the mouth

Its without a doubt all in with Bortles for 2017 with them deciding to decline the 5th year option.  He is essentially on a one year prove it deal now.

 

First three picks in the draft are obviously helps to Bortles, so they are leaving him no excuses for this year.

 

I like what they are doing, don't want to get too cute in year one of new regime, especially with so many foundation pieces already in place.  See what you can get out of him when he has all (most) of the necessary tools to succeed.

 

We will see this year if he is able to elevate this offense (and team) to the next level or if he appears to be the one holding them back.  Be fun to watch

They haven't declined his option. There has been no decision announced yet.
