Trump withholding millions in aid to Pakistan, as he accuses country of giving 'safe haven' to terrorists

The Trump administration has decided to withhold millions in military aid to Pakistan as the president accuses the Muslim-majority nation of harboring terrorists and telling “lies” to the United States.

It's about time we have someone to stand up to these terrorist nations.
They should have done that years ago especially after Bin Laden was found to be in Pakistan...It's no secret that the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is porous as all hell, allowing terrorists to pass back and forth at will
Everyone knows this is how it’s always been but we’ll probably hear about how this hurts children in Pakistan instead.
People may not believe it, but DJT is on his way to becoming the most impactful president in our nations history.

Actually, given how many American companies outsource work to Pakistan for cheap labor, and how boned those companies would be if Trump did something stupid like cut off trade with them or tell them to go do horrible things to themselves, we should be hearing about Trump sabotaging the economy to get his rocks off.

Pakistan is our 57th largest trading partner, and we have a $1.3B deficit with them. America dominates their economy, but they hardly contribute anything at all to ours.

Anything we'd lose, another country would be happy to pick up. Meanwhile, they'd see a huge loss if Americans stopped buying from them.

So, how is stopping trade (which he hasn't done) with a country that we're in deficit to a bad thing when they offer little-to-nothing?
If we are going to purchase cheap goods from a 3rd world country, I would rather it be to a place that doesn't immediately convert the money into funding terror attacks.
Cool -- utilize those funds to rebuild Puerto Rico.  A country where innocent victims were devastated by a natural disaster.

Probably wouldn't hurt to remove the corrupt PR mayors who politicized the storm to promote the democrats rather than distribute the resources appropriately.

Awarding the Montana Company, Whitfish Energy (who has 2 full-time employees), a $300 million sole source contract probably wasn't very wise either.
There's a few other nations we should pull aid from too.
Why are we world building at all while our own infrastructure and economy needs work?

— U.S. aid shouldn’t go to countries that harbor terrorists who want to harm Americans, such as Pakistan, where Osama bin Laden had taken refuge not far from a Pakistani military compound before U.S. intelligence discovered him there. The U.S. has drastically cut aid to Pakistan in recent years, but the South Asian nation still received $383 million in 2016, according to U.S. government data, and $742,200,000 is planned for Pakistan in fiscal year 2017.

— There is too little accountability for those who abuse U.S. aid through theft or misuse.

— Foreign aid encourages corruption and conflict and stifles the will to pursue free enterprise, because recipients become dependent.

— A saturation of food aid can undermine opportunities for local agricultural markets to develop.

— American money should be spent on aiding Americans, such as the almost 50,000 U.S. veterans who are homeless, according to data from the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

50 billion every year in foreign aid... and for what?

Agreed this is a good start but I'm all for sending all the foreign welfare.
“Foreign aid” is just the words we use so people are OK with handing out money. It’s all just an attempt to buy allegiance, and it isn’t working.
It is my understanding that we supply our forces in Afghanistan through Pakistan, and that it would be very difficult logistically if we did not go through Pakistan.  If we can't go through Pakistan, we can't reach Afghanistan.  Of course, we can't go through Iran, which would be the only other alternative.   Take a look at the map.

So, if the Pakistanis say, fine, if you're not going to send us any aid, we will align ourselves with China, what then?   We pull out of Afghanistan?   Because we cannot supply ourselves in Afghanistan without going through Pakistan.

And then, if we cannot put any forces in Afghanistan, do we leave Afghanistan to the terrorists- ISIS, Al Qaeda, whoever?   And at that point, we have Pakistan under threat from crazy people in Afghanistan, and Pakistan has a whole lot of nuclear weapons.   The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is impossible to defend or seal off.

I assume we've thought this through...

Are we supposed to stay in Afghanistan forever to prevent terrorist groups from forming?
At some point these countries have to figure it out for themselves. We can not continue to be world police.

ISIS is beat back in a big way right now... but to think we're ever going to eliminate terrorism is silly and naive.
If we can get the region settled just a bit in the next year, I think we should fully start pulling out of the area.

We can still have our military stationed in friendly countries in case of needing to act against China, North Korea, or anyone else.

It turns, as always, on Iran.
