Weird, lazy, call it what you want. But the folks calling out Hackett aren't seeing the big picture and this one doesn't seem to appreciate that smart OCs don't play every opponent the same way. Or that Hackett actually had success in several games by running the ball early and often.

Fournette (on topic) did almost exactly what I expected him to do.
Not sure what expectations everyone else had on the offense but it's been far above what I thought it would be. I mean do people really think if we played the colts and Texans with Fournette that we still wouldn't have dominate them?

Yeah close to perfect. The inner stat lover in me wishes he played 16 games purely so he'd have like 1,300 yards+ and rival Zeke.
What I'm really most excited about is his ability as a receiver. When he catches the ball in the open field, he's a load to bring down.

And as I've pointed out ad nauseum, I don't give a crap about the 8+ men in the box stat when we were forcing teams to do it by playing 21, 12, and even 22 formations more than anyone. That's not a stacked box, it's a cluttered but balanced box.

If teams were playing 8 in the box when we were in 3 WR sets then it would be a good argument, but that didn't happen.
I went with 1100 yards and 7 TDs. I went back and looked in the original thread that @NYC posted.

Fournette ended up with 1040 yards and 9. Man I was close. I think I said he would add 2 or 3 in the passing game.

Overall he proved he was well worth the pick. Watson though, could end up being a beast.

So much for throwing only 45 mph at the combine. I tried to say that doesn't matter.
His season was okay not great sub par ypc.

Even if it wasn't pretty the defense had to at least think about it and honor it. This opened everything else up. Running, play action, screens you name it. The last 2 games we came out just running the ball to no avail until we were inevitably forced to throw it and we had once chance to convert and it was terrible. When the defense knows you have to throw it and pins its ears back it is so much harder to play offense. Watch a Patriots game start to finish. They throw to open up the run. I get it's Brady and Gronk or whatever... that isn't the point. The point is the defense is playing way looser and not stuffing the box. Bortles looked to be in rhythm early in these games we dominated and was actually making good throws and good decisions. We baby him and are scared to orient the offense around him and orientate it around Fournette when he's in the game and we basically go nowhere. This offense was confident and in rhythm in the games we had Ivory/Yeldon starting. Please get a clue and try to win!

Hopefully this was on purpose. There wasn't much to play for, so maybe they were running to get back in a rhythm and to save stuff for the playoffs. The Titans game truly was a head scratcher with the WRs not running any open routes over the middle and the constant runs right into the heart of the defense.
I said I expected at least 1k rushing yards, or it'd be a disappointment. He hit his 1k and had 9 TD to go with it. Solid rookie season, especially since he has been dealing with an ankle injury all season long and a lot of stacked boxes.

Next year will be very telling though. Was the ankle injury really a big issue, or not? Will it be a chronic injury he has to deal with, like some believed with him coming out of college? Was this rookie year a fluke, or is he just scratching the surface?

While I don't agree Hackett is an idiot (as he has called some really good games this season) he also concerns me with his ineffective game-plans at times (like the last 2 games...unless that was by design).

He made a comment in his latest press conference that really concerned me...he said something along the lines of when he hears (outside people) talking about we passed a lot he thinks, oh no we need to run more, and the other way around.  My concerns is what OC should care what outsiders think (for one) and for two a good OC should be game-planning (and adjusting in games) to take what defenses give you, exploit their weakest points and dominate them where we can.

I think optimal game-plans for Jags are what we saw in early December...PA/Pass on early downs, early in the game, to make defenses honest then we could do just about whatever we want from there on out.

That's what makes teams like the Patriots so good.  They will call 10 straight passes (OR RUNS) depending on what defenses are willing to give up (or where they have favorable match-ups).

I want to see Hackett mature into someone who exploits defenses better and stop worrying about outside noise.
I think he would have hit 1300 yards and 12 TDs if he plays a whole year.

His game against PIT was up there with the best performances in franchise history.

Jimmy 291 vs Ravens
Fred 234 against Pit
Maurice 300 total yards vs Indy in 06
Maurice 177 vs Ten
Blackmon 200 vs Houston
Fournette 191 vs Pit
McCardell 18 catches vs rams
Stewart 5 TDS vs Eagles

I might have missed 1 but Fournette is up there with the best games in history.
i honestly hated the pick value wise but we got a steal in cam robinson in the 2nd and that made up for it
He needs to step up right now Fournette is not even in the top 4 running backs in his class.
This game has the potential to be Fournette’s biggest of the year...air and ground.

Yeah. It could be a big day for him if he's up to it.

I personally think Hackett will have a few creative blocking schemes on tap to get him sprung, and a couple of crafty screens or swing passes mixed in.

I predicted in an earlier thread that the Jags would grind out 160 yards on the ground as a team and I could see Fournette accounting for much of that.

The other thing I'd scheme if I were Hackett is to hit those slot receiver and TE crossing routes and out routes. Their nickel back (I'm guessing it'll still be Leonard Johnson) looks beatable there in the drives I've watched on rewind. He could struggle against speed (Westbrook, Cole, Lee) and would be a size mis-match if forced to cover Lewis.
I hope he stays with the team. I bought a fournette jersey and I want it to last a bit.

I expect him to be HUGE in the playoffs!
