I think that a coaching change could be better for the team mid season than some think. It gives the players a fresh feel, almost like a reset button. Maybe that's enough to get them to relax a little bit and do their jobs better. It won't be a huge turn around if it happens but it will definitely revive a lot more than some think. When you're depressed and don't know what to do to fix it, it can wear on you. I feel like that's what I'm seeing in a lot of the players because they can't fix it til the problem(Gus) is gone.

Just waiting for Marrone to take over and start off by saying "Ok, guys, time to implement all of that stuff we worked on after Gus left at 5PM".

Players standing in a circle with bottle caps and a stick could do the same thing as what we have.

How about a simple true or false: Two former Jaguar head coaches, which fans begged to have fired while here, are now experiencing relative success elsewhere with different rosters. Are they just suddenly, and miraculously good coaches?? Maybe they were good all along, like most NFL coaches are.

 

Odd reference, but relevant: Think of an orchestra. How good is an orchestra because of the guy with a baton on the podium? Those guys barely even do anything except direct traffic. The strength of those groups comes from the musicians within them, and their preparation and years of practice. Not from intermission adjustments, motivational speeches and programming.

 

All I'm saying is ... maybe this group of guys aren't as talented as we think. Maybe they are, and haven't reached their full potential (which is what I'm hoping is the case).

 

None of the questions get answered by doing the whole witch hunt thing.

I don't see guys out there loafing around and just going thru the motions. This is evident by the players showing their frustrations on the field and pressing in futility to make plays.

Yes, it is a "tired excuse" IMO. And you say 2 former coaches are having "relative success". I would argue that only 1 is having relative success and that roster is stacked with talent.

 

At some point, the king has to be held accountable for the actions of his servants.

I get everyone's argument, if the players on the field were all in high school or maybe even college.

 

They are professionals at this level.

 

Now I'm not saying our coaching staff is just marvelous. I am saying, however, that with a new HC right now, we still can't run the ball, Fowler will still make rookie mistakes, and Blake may still make bad decisions.

Khan is smarter than you think. He probably sees things like:

1. Gus isn't the one dropping passes, or batting them up into the air to be intercepted.
   
2. Gus isn't the one failing to create running lanes, or adequate passing lanes.
   
3. The best players on this team are about three years into their career, or less - they are professionals, who aren't in their prime.
   
4. The team is frustrated and it is showing with the fights.
   
5. Penalties show a lack of discipline on the players. The coaching staff isn't drawing penalties (like Mularkey did by hilariously throwing his headset onto the field)
   
6. Firing the coach right now does nothing to make any of this improve, and will in fact set the team back an even greater distance and take even longer to have things hopefully start to gel.
   
7. There is no guarantee that a new coach, even famous ones, could make this team into a winner.
   
8. The only people who may even be expecting a firing are fans, who rightly so are a bit [BAD WORD REMOVED] off, and deperately want to see something change. And media types who want to create click bait.
   

I expect a loss tonight by double digits. I will be forced to deal with the depression that comes from losing to 2 former Jag coaches who were fired here (pleasing the fan base) in back to back weeks.

 

All in all - this team goes nowhere until the professionals on the field step up and play like they should. That's on them. Not the Xs and Os and halftime adjustments.

I can certainly agree with this.

 

We were talking at work this morning, and one thing that was mentioned makes a whole lot of sense.  Prior to the season starting there was a lot of hype from both fans and the media regarding the team to the point that "playoff run" was part of the conversation.  On paper it was a legitimate possibility.  However, many of the players, especially the younger ones also heard this talk and probably let it get into their heads.  It's almost like they as well as many of the fans just "expected" wins and domination without the players putting forth the effort necessary for it to be a reality.

 

While some blame certainly can be placed on coaching, I think that more of the blame needs to be directed towards the players themselves.

Coaches are responsible for making sure players stay focused and don't listen to what the media says about them, good or bad.

Not really.  I'm not saying that the talent level isn't there regarding the players.  What I'm saying is that the preparation and self-discipline isn't quite there from the players.  When you hear about reports of a player closing down a bar the night before a game, that's not really on the coaching staff.

What is this about players closing down bars?

Clearly Gus cannot be blamed. I mean if the players were good they'd win games right? How can you expect a coach to win with 0 talent? If GM Dave were any good we'd have 53 pro bowlers but he sucks so do all the players so does the owner. I tell you what though the only one who doesn't suck is Gus and his staff. That's another thing too. You can tell Gus is great because he hand picked a brilliant staff

Gotta agree with you actually. If there were a cloning machine, I would clone Gus 100 times.

Also keeping him WOULD NOT hurt the team. I mean how you make untalented players talented!?!?! He needs better talent that's all. Just think about this too...if we keep him around all you "fans" can keep booing and the untalented players can continue to take their anger out on you and not Gus cause they know that they're poo poo and Gus is lord

yes yes yes 100 times yes. We just need more Gus. These non footabllers don't understand. Gus would go coach another team and win 6 superbowls...then we'd sure look foolish huh!?
