Everyone wants to give Marrone a pass and blame refs. I think it was Marrone. OC and DC play conservative? Why? MARRONE is the head man... and I would be ok if this was a first time thing. Marrone has proven this is his mentality and he is so bad at clock management!

I'm not blaming the refs. Lots of people aren't blaming the refs. They screwed up, but so did the Jags.

A fairly called second half and we might be having this conversation about play calling going into the SB.
We'll never know. I do know, it's hard to be mad at this staff after 3 wins to AFCCG in one year. I'm sure TC and Marrone will sit down and see where he went wrong and why.
This team has a bright future. I'm starting to get excited for next year, but this loss still hurts. I still can't watch the game again. I hope we open the season against NE and destroy them.
Blake earned another year
I'm still not sure he's the guy. Maybe he can become the guy though. He's certainly earned it with the way he played with really no consistent weapons on offense. But our game plan was obviously hindered because the coaching staff didn't have enough faith in him when it was needed. And that is a big problem. The team rallied behind him and it could really dampen the locker room togetherness if he's cut. But in the long run, it could be for the best. This is really the hardest question we have to answer this off season because there's a possibility that if we had another QB that the coaches had more faith in, we might have won the game Sunday. This isn't Bortles fault as of late, but his past history decided that. I feel bad for the kid because I love how he handles himself and I wish he was our guy. I really just don't know though. This is gonna be a hard decision.

He got his YPA way up, and actually threw a few more 20+ yard passes than last year despite like 50 less attempts. I like Bortles at 18-20mil per year a lot more than Cousins at 28-30mil per year. Cousins isn't THAT much better to be worth what he's going to get, vs what Bortles could get.
Bortles earned the 5th year option, at the very least in my opinion, but I'd like to see him inked to a 3 year extension. That doesn't mean competition shouldn't be brought in. I think Henne's time is finally up and needs to go and a QB should be drafted for sure. Somewhere in the 2nd-4th rounds.
I think Cousins is a top 6-7 QB in the league. But can't afford what he's going to want.

Cousins is not the sixth best QB in the NFL. Just off the top of my head Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, Luck (if he's healthy), Rivers, Wilson and Ryan are all guys that have shown for an extended time they're better than him.

The moment wasn't too big for him, he showed so much poise and drug the team along with him for a win in Pittsburgh and just came up short against the defending Superbowl champs all the while going throw for throw with the GOAT until the play calling went into safe mode in the 2nd half.
I give the Patriots D credit for what they did in the 2nd half of that game and scratch my head on what Hackett was trying to do on offense. They came out and shut down the obvious 1st down runs we were attempting every drive putting Bortles in a bad situation over and over enabling the Pats to pin their ears back and get after him.
That last throw on 4th down to Westbrook was money and if it hadn't been for the amazing timing on that jump and swat down by the defender, that play goes for TD and we take the lead and most likely hold them off for the win and are talking Superbowl right now.
Show me where we can get another QB with 2 playoff wins and 3 playoff games worth of experience and I'm all in. Otherwise I'm pretty damn excited for next year with Bortles under center again.
The dude showed he can go toe to toe with the GOAT.... and but for a play here and there by any one player on the team, we'd be headed to Mini. The Kid is NAILS. He is now battle tested, and stood up when he had to.
He made his way through adversity. Lots of it. About as much as any player in the league.
Are we going to see if a rookie can do that? Does a team SF know what Jimmy G is going to do once he---and he will- faces adversity?
Clearly Bortles is still growing and has room to do so.
Also, we know he fits in this locker room. This team is ready to RIDE or DIE with him as well, and that means something. They all want him to succeed as he is one of them.
Screw it, point blank, I am Ride or DIE too. This year was special and I'm for playing out the hand we have.

Still looks good to me man. The ball was on a perfect angle, that's just one of the best plays you'll see on the ball by a defender. Though I do see him using Dede's body for leverage going up to get his hands on it now.

did people not see the trash he worked with this year and the numbers he still put up? 7th in yards, 9th in %, 8th in TD. Multiple RB and WR out all year.

I see what you're saying but man we're talking inches. About six inches higher and it probably drops in over the defender as well. But for a 4th and 18 or whatever it was and Bortles throwing on the move to avoid the rush I don't know if you get much better.
He was a play here or there from getting us to the Super Bowl. The moment wasn't too big for him going on the road to Pittsburgh and New England in January. He could have folded like a tent after getting his first playoff win and nobody would have been surprised or necessarily blamed him in his first playoff experience. Kirk Cousins and Alex Smith are a combined 2-8 in the playoffs. Smith couldn't muster a second half point at home against the Titans to get eliminated this year. People are acting like these guys are nails. Alex Smith until this breakout year at 33 has made a career out of being a game manager that throws for 15-20 touchdowns a season and limits turnovers. Smith and Cousins aren't elite options. Smith's QB Rating in 7 years with San Fran was worse than Bortles. Same with Cousins first few years. The more time in the league, the more the game slows down for QBs. Blake is only 25.
