It's possible, but I don't see it that way as of now.

Wash's playcalling/scheme got BETTER under Marrone. Not sure how Marrone can catch any blame for Wash calling less zone than he did before - but still using it a bit too much. Hopefully Marrone and Coughlin look back on that and influence Wash to tighten that up even more than they have.

Hackett has done a nice job the majority of the time but has these lapses where he gets predictable and "safe." Is Marrone making him do that?  Maybe, but if you believe Doug Marrone (I find him very believable) he says he likes to have his coordinators do their job and he will only interject in critical situations when he hears something in the headset he doesn't like or wants to discuss.

So that leads me to believe marrone may be influencing offensive calls at times but that Hackett is the one calling the vast majority of plays without too much regulation.

I do, however, blame Marrone for the poor clock management in the last game as well as a few others.  The excessive/poorly timed zone stuff and the predictability on offense I blame the coordinators for.  Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

I gotta agree but disagree with u on this NYC. I am not sure the scheme for WASH got better under Marrone. We have all pro players at every level. Wash may be good... but Marrone's mentality.. is the problem.

I ain't trying to rock Marrone. I am just a believer in LEADERS. When BB tells any coordinator what to do... they do it. The Jags have shown this identity all year long!!! AND THATS ON HACKETT AND WASH? After a loss... someone takes the blame.. but come on man.. Marrone watch a superbowl or 5 ... you might of known you are playing the GOAT.

I hope you are wrong about Marrone.  Obviously - I can only speculate. It would stink if he is indeed the reason why Hackett goes into "safe-mode" and Wash falls in love with zone coverage at the wrong times.

The fact of the matter is that they coached well together the majority of the time in the majority of the games this year.  I think some minor tweaks will fix things if they arrive at the right conclusions while re-capping the season together.  Hopefully Coughlin has something to say about all three of the predominant gripes here.

Well, who the heck else is responsible for the conservative mode? It wasn't the first time NYC.. it was proven so many times throughout the year! This is Marrone guys.

I've made it clear repeatedly that I believe Hackett is at fault for that. It's very possible that it's Marrone pulling the strings on that when it happens. We have differing speculations there. No big deal.
Whether or not Marrone is giving the directive or not it’s on Hackett to stop using the repetitive playcalling outlined by the Sharp football guy. No excuse for that.

I’m also inclined to believe these scenarios are played out beforehand and the staff as a whole agrees to what situations they take the air out of the ball or go into primarily zone.

Of course, Marrone has final say so it ultimately lays at his feet.
I highly doubt these things are a conversation in the slightest if Bouye isn't called for PI incorrectly or either of the egregious holds are called on 3rd and 18.

Our coaches and players did enough to win the game. We knew we were going to have to have a commanding lead in order to overcome the biased officiating.

They had a few opportunities to win the game, but they shouldn't have even been in that position in the first place.
Interesting analysis from R. Lewis on inside NFL.
Good, I'm glad Bouye said what he said. The players out there playing to win and the coaches scared, playing not to lets because its the Patriots. It's just always crazy to me how everyone can see, the fans, analysts and in this case even the players but the coaches who get paid to call the plays, couldn't seem to get it right. Even after what we were doing in the first half had us in position to win. How did Hackett not see that that running the same draw was not working or Wash not see that zone coverage is not working and refusing the blitz and go man to man, when we have the best CBs in the league. Someone on the coaching staff is supposed to see something and make adjustments. This was a huge game, win and your in the Super Bowl. Bouye was taking it serious, him and the rest of the team did what they were supposed to do. The coaching staff needs to be held accountable for this loss along with the terrible refs.

That was Jacksonville CB A.J. Bouye's complaint after the game:  "We just started playing soft. We started calling more zone, and they just knew what we were going to run. We were running back-to-back the same calls. ... and they just had beaters for it."
That was said to a Boston reporter. Jalen made similar comments in his presser after the game.

Sad thing is that they are just saying what we already know. I expected better from Wash.

I believe the change needs to come from Marrone...It seems we get a small lead and the directive to both coordinators is to go very, very "safe" and conservative.  And as we know, playing it "safe" typically just ensures you don't win.

Stay aggressive!  That message needs to be what Marrone preaches.  And, he needs to direct it on the mic in-game if he notices the Coordinators going too conservative.

What was said?

Said defense is good. Not great and won't be great until they "play on a string" and have a player on field calling the defense. He thinks Jack can do it, but not yet.

Was highly critical of the zone defense on 3rd and 18 and was also highly critical of not blitzing Brady. Also broke down how our defense was badly tricked on one of the Amendola TDs. He and Marshall got into a heated discussion about the play, it was pretty good.

I'm not sure when Campbell got hurt but Ngakoue got hurt at the end of the first half and wasn't the same.  I think he was trying to gut it out the 2nd half but maybe shouldn't have even been in there at all.

It's tough when our top pass-rushers were nicked up.

I saw somewhere that Ngakoue hurt himself in pregame.
as soon as I started seeing a lot of zone I knew there were going to be issues, and sure enough

you play this team man to man. We have the 2 best corners, 2 of the fastest LB's, and at the very least, 2 very solid Safeties... there is no excuse for playing zone vs brady... zone is so bad vs top tier qbs unless you are running zone blitzes and disguising them

no idea why it is so complicated to play man for us.. I get it vs mobile QB's but tom brady and running by anyone

The problem with this idea is that both sides of the ball went conservative after the half. When that happens it means it is more than a coordinators decision.

Like I said before, kneeling on the ball with 55 seconds left in the half set the tone for the remainder of the game for the players and coordinators. The game plan became try to sit on the lead and that's coming from Marrone.

Why he thought this could work against a guy like Brady is beyond me.
Listen. The players and fans can be upset and piss and moan about the coaching staff with this and with that. Bottom line is this. The defense had a 10 point lead going into the final quarter of the game. I still think the game was blatantly officiated in New England's favor. And It's not even close.

The back-to-back PI's on Lewis. The facemask and PI on Westbrook. The obvious hold on Smith during the run they used to ice the game. It was trash officiating. The fact that they let us snap the ball with 00:00 on the time clock, maybe a buzzer beater to see how the play would go and Bortles nails one hell of a pass to Lewis to give us what could have been another first down on a potential 3 or 7 point drive. Only to throw a dead ball flag seconds later is dumbfounding.

Then they get 30 yards on their next possession with two questionable calls and they cut the lead to four points.

That was the game. Ramsey did get flagged for an obvious PI later on in the game. And as far as Zone coverage goes. Jack got caught looking at Brady over the middle in coverage twice instead of picking up his target in zone coverage like he's supposed to do on big first down passes he converted. Romo pointed that out twice in the second half.

The schemes work. When the players do their jobs.

not sure If it's been posted elsewhere, but pretty good in-depth video that dissects what's been said in this thread about the zone
I'm not either. Not happy with the offensive calls either. We lost the game so there is a lot to not be happy about. The offense went into the tank and the defense got exposed.
The DC probably isn't happy with his PI either.
