Looks like the wheels may be coming off the cart in NE. Josh is staying in NE. Kraft no doubt threw cash and the HC job at Josh to keep him around. Kraft is no fool but Belichick may have screwed Kraft by benching Butler in revenge to Kraft for trading away Garoppolo at the insistence of Brady?  If Belichick is out, who do you think will make a move to sign him?
I think Kraft made the push to keep him, so there could be a nice coaching transition from Bill to Josh.Prob within a couple years
I don't think this is a sign of the wheels coming off in NE. If anything, retaining McDaniel is a sign ownership is trying to keep things going after Belichick decides to hang it up.

Stability is good for a franchise.  Honestly with them trading away the young guy I really hope this lose is the start of a big slide.  I hope we get it together even more this off season.
McDaniels just killed his chance at being a HC anywhere except New England.
I read this differently than most I guess. I think it is more of an indictment on the Colts than a preference to remain in New England.

Maybe Josh didn't want to tie himself to one of the worst owners in the NFL. Maybe Luck isn't progressing as expected.
I'm still waiting on NFL. com to report that BB has left and McDaniels is taking over. LOL

Even if that were true, still makes McDaniels look like an idiot for not realizing it before.

It looks like he is being groomed to be the heir apparent.

Also, this explains why other Belichick assistants have failed as head coaches. He has kept his methods and knowledge secret from them. It makes sense, why train someone else to go to another team and beat you.

Belichek is teaching him at Roster management and building, little different than coaching, although I suppose it goes hand in hand. BB tree has produced good coaches, they just haven't always been good head coaches.
