Say what?
We need a QB to backup this year, but also potentially take over in 2020 (or possibly mid-2019). The draft is the way to go.

I could actually see this happening.
If you assume that, despite Caldwell's protests, Bortles' deal reflects an uncertainty the franchise has towards him for whatever reason, and the team believes last year was no fluke, then it makes sense to get a vet that could push him.
Let's face it, a guy like Bradford or Keenum could start and win for a good team, as they did for the Vikings this year. Bridgewater started and won for the Vikings prior to his injury. But for various reasons, all could be without a starting gig when the music stops playing.
They would have little choice but to be a backup, and any one of them would be a substantial upgrade over Henne.
It makes even more sense if you assume the Jaguars don't like any of the 2nd-tier and below QBs in this draft.

There's this from PFT.
Did the Jaguars offer a 2 for Foles?

I hope we don't sign Bradford. But we really do need to upgrade from Henne. Bradford has talent, but he's far too injury prone.

I am inclined to agree with you.
Suppose we sign Bradford.
Initially, there is the risk of dividing the team if Bortles starts slowly.
On top of that, suppose Bortles struggles, you put Bradford in, he gets hurt like he always does, and then you have to put Bortles back in.
On the other hand, is the risk mitigated at all by the predominantly run nature of the offense?
For the reord, I think if we make sure he has some receiving weapons, Bortles can thrive here.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, however, everyone else is clamoring for consistency at QB. Foles had one good year with the Eagles and then fell off the face of the earth. He then resurfaces and plays some pretty bad games but finishes it off with three good playoff performances. What happened in between those stints? Who is the real Foles?

I would say signing with Jeff Fisher is enough to make almost any QB look bad.

Why would we trade a 2nd rd pick for someone to sit behind Bortles for 2 years? Not to mention he'd have to get paid once his deal was up. Foles is really inconsistent and a 2nd rd pick is a hefty price to pay.

This is stupid. There's no FA QB's other than Drew Brees and Kirk Cousins worth going after. Draft one!

Really disagree about Bradford and Keenum. Bradford has proven over and over and over that he is unreliable and injury prone. Throwing money at him would be a waste and Keenum is extremely overrated and I grade him below Bortles. Bridgewater is coming off a serious injury and was a complete unknown before he was hurt.

I'd love it, but it'll take way more than that to get Foles. I wanted to sign him as a FA before the season.

Lol Foles would definitely not beat out Blake, this is the guy who wanted to quit football 2 years ago and played about 4 great games since his 1 year wonder season

Looks like a possible end of the LoB. Sherman maybe be at the end of his time in seattle plus the bennit trade is really making it look like the hawks may be in for a rebuild.

The article suggests possible a exit for cam as well. I don't want Sherman and i know cam is coming off a back injury, but for the right price, how crazy would our DB group look with bam bam cam at SS.

From today’s Ozone:
Quote: Rob from Ponte Vedra, FL:
How do you think the Jags will use money not spend on A-Rob to "improve other areas of the offense." I would expect an interior lineman or tight end in free agency at this point, so we can draft a receiver but I'm curious about available offensive lineman. Anyone worth signing who would improve the group we have?
John: I wouldn't be surprised if the Jaguars made a serious run at Carolina guard Andrew Norwell and Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton.
03-09-2018, 04:02 PM
Andrew Norwell and Trey Burton would be an incredible offseason.
