Clearly we still have a few positions that could do with an upgrade, but I’m talking about the main priorities.

And I’m aware this will change as the offseason progresses, but I just wondered what you think they are right now.

I’d probably say OG, TE, WR.

For me it really depends on what happens with free agency first. If they're going to let Aaron Colvin walk or if he decides to go on his own. CB becomes a priority in my eyes. He played his role very, very well last year behind Bouye and Ramsey. And he was good enough to step in if anything happened to either one of them. Losing him will hurt us a lot more than I think people realize around here.

My next concern is Paul Posluszny at OLB. How comfortable is this team right now with Blair Brown playing a long term starting role on this defense? How much longer can Paul keep going? Will they even retain him? That's a concern for me as well. So, just like losing Colvin. If you lose Posluszny they may need to address the OLB position.

When it comes to the OG, TE and WR position. I am kind of looking at a few things. For one. I believe if they can't reach an agreement with Robinson. He's getting the franchise tag. And I think that means by default that they'll have no interest in retaining Marqise Lee. Which is fine. I am comfortable with Robinson - Hurns - Cole - Westbrook as our big four going into training camp.

The only concern at OG for me is A.J Cann. I don't think he's really shown enough to warrant being a starter again in 2018. I think he's replaceable. As far as the TE position. Everyone on here keeps saying we need a pass catching TE. I disagree with this. Our system doesn't really require a freak athlete at that position. It's a west coast system. I think we could get by next year at a respectable level between Lewis, Koyack, Rivera & O'Shaugnessy. Not sure if Lewis is coming back or not but I would still feel fine with that group.

Plus, you have to consider a few other things. If they improve the blocking a bit more. And they keep Bohanon involved at FB along with Cole and Westbrook getting better at WR and Robinson coming back at WR. That should end up giving us some good looks over the middle at times with the TE position.

I think if I had to draft up a positional board of importance and need right now through FA and the actual Draft for this team. It would look like this from greatest to least importance:

1. OG - The interior needs improvement. When Omameh is missing the run blocking gets stone walled. Cann gets pushed around a lot. It's a concern.
2. QB - Henne isn't a challenger. Bortles looked better but he's on his final year contract wise. Need a legitimate insurance policy with legitimate starting potential at least by 2019 if we don't retain Bortles.
3. OT - Robinson and Parnell were pretty good last year. But they seem to miss a game or two here and there. Depth is a concern.
4. OLB - See above regarding free agency and Paul.
5. CB - See above regarding free agency and Aaron.
6. WR - See above regarding free agency and Marqise and Allen.
7. TE - Depth and maybe looking towards the future without Lewis.
8. RB - Depth and concern for mostly Fournette's ankle issues and Ivory's contract.
If we do sign Cousins, this might change our needs a bit. With Blake we're talking about a G to the mix along the OL. With Cousins, we may need to do more than that (along with making sure we re-sign ARob), and that is, we may need to replace most of the starters on the OL. Cousins stays in the pocket more and needs better protection that what we provide Blake.

Ranking the OL looks like...

1. Linder
2. Cam Robinson
3. Omameh
4. Parnell
5. Cann

Omameh is FA who must be re-signed or replaced as it is, and then we'd like to add a G to replace the struggling AJ Cann. That's with Blake. With Cousin, I'm thinking we straight out need to replace the last three names on this list with quality starters. Keep Cam at LT, Linder at C or G, and then sign three impact names right at the start of free agency.
Parnell is our 2nd best lineman not sure why RT would appear on any needs here. He only allowed one sack all year and did his usual solid in the run game stuff. His 2 years 11 million contract is also a bargain.

He is getting fairly old so we should start getting a developmental RT in the pipeline, but he shouldn't be anywhere near a priority to replace.
I figure we'll re-sign Omameh. If we do that, guard is not in my top three. Decent guards are not that difficult to find in the late rounds or as free agents.

#1 CB. Even if we re-sign Colvin, after Ramsey and Bouye the drop off is disastrous. Injuries happen.
#2 QB. We need to replace Henne with a guy who has an upside.
#3 TE. Marcedes is still viable, but getting on in years. The rest of the bunch are replaceable.

In the first round, I'm a BAP guy. A top prospect at OT, S, or LB would be reasonable if the three positions listed above require big reaches when we pick.
G, TE, G

And RTs are later round picks too. You can get a good one in the 5th round and he'll be ready in two years.

One sack? Where are you seeing this stat?

I don' t really feel we need to replace any of them aside from AJ Cann. I'm just thinking that with Cousins being more of a pocket passer, we might want to do even more to shore things up.

I'm also not buying that he's better than either Cam or Linder.

https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pr...ns-week-13

"Offensive lineman Jermey Parnell is the only right tackle in the league that has played more than 300 pass-blocking snaps without allowing a sack this year. If he can continue his sack-free run for 70 more pass-blocking snaps, he will be the only right tackle in the PFF era (2006-present) to have played more than 370 pass-blocking snaps and not allow a sack."

That was going into week 13. Unfortunately he gave up one sack after that, finishing with 1 sack and 3 total penalties.

Linder is why I said second best olineman, but he was far and away better than Cam this year. Cam has the potential but he's not even close to there yet. I can't find his sack numbers but it was a significant amount and he was tied for 4th in the entire league with 14 penalties, and that wasn't even in a full compliment of snaps as we know.

Parnell is not better than Linder.  He's really not better than Cam either IMO - but he had a better year than Cam did because Cam made some typical rookie mistakes, had more penalties, and allowed more pressures on the QB than Parnell.

I fully expect Cam to take a step up in 2018 and show that he's the better athlete. If for no other reason, there's the fact that Parnell will be turning 32 during camp this summer.

People do tend to underrate Parnell's performance in 2017 though. It's odd to me.

The reason I think they'd be wise to draft a Tackle in the mid-rounds is due to Parnell's age and the questionable depth behind him.
He's got two more years on his contract - but who knows if he'll still be performing at a high level in his final contract year?
I see LB, G, and QB as a need this year. Our depth at LB just isn't where it should be and they need to be preparing for Poz's departure. The right guard position is a NOW need. That has been the weakest part of the O-line since Cann was brought on. He lacks strength, leverage, and technique. For the life of me, I can't see what the coaches see in him! The QB is fine as it stands but this team would benefit from that next level performance. I don't see anyone coming out on the open market as a big upgrade over what we have, especially at the going price point. Draft for this near future need. As far as the TE that I keep seeing listed. We have a stable of TEs that can get the job done. Our pass catching TE is coming off an injury and the others are making strides. Draft for the upgrade in the late rounds. This seems to be where Caldwell shines.
You can only name 3. Priority first. And it doesn't have to include draft only.

1. WR - maybe a Jarvis Landry, or a playmaker in the draft that can come in and play right away. Hurns' contract is all of sudden looking great. Hurns will be our number 1 for now. Westbrook will get his chance to flourish. Maybe we keep Lee. We won't be terrible at WR, but we won't scare anybody.

2. TE - Lewis had an efficient 2017 campaign. He had the 3 TD game, which was awesome. He can still block very good. His drops have been a minimum vs early in his career. I think it's time we showed this position some attention. One way to mask average WRs is too have a beast at TE.

Guard - Linder is the best guard on the team or in the draft, but he's probably gonna be our center for the rest of his career, just like Meester making the switch. He's smart, can make all the calls and he can run block and pass block with the best of them. I'd love to get Cann upgraded which will give LF more room, and Bortles more time.

We have every starter coming back on defense, so I think if we can get 3 new offensive starters, and add a veteran at WR then we make it back to the AFC title game.

Losing Arob is gonna suck but we will see how that plays out.
Jervis is awesome
Stupid auto correct. I'll fix it.
QB of the future
OG
TE
TE
LG
Developmental qb
OG, TE, CB. People will realize the need for CB if one of either Ramsey or Bouye goes down. Patmon would be playing outside right now if they happened. Teams that win have good depth.
OG
TE
OG/C
TE, RT and Guard
QB
WR
TE
Oline
Now that Bortles is extended and - If they don't get A-Rob back:

Guard/Center
X Receiver
TE
Competition/Back-Up QB

I know it's four needs - not three. But the QB just thing can't be ignored. They should be pushing Bortles with young competition.
