MLS players against PL stars
Until now.. I think our team togetherness has turned a lot of heads..
I absolutely agree Darlo,I dont know what has changed but hopefully it keeps up. This next game against Belgium means alot due to seeding and even though it will probably be against the Belgian reserves I think it will be their biggest test yet. If Lindgard, Alli, Henderson, Dier, and LCheek play well they're a very dangerous team against anyone and have to be considered the favorites.

What's changed? Youth, passion and a manager who gives a crap.. that's how I see it.. (just look at his success when he managed the England Under 21's).
I'd have to agree. I don't think it really bothers either team who they play in the round of 16, but to top the group would be a nice little achievement in itself. I'm not too bothered about Dele Alli, he's a good player, but I wouldn't start him. Having said that, I'd like lots of changes for the Belgium game and keep the core starters fresh and healthy for the next round.
Day 12:
Saudi Arabia 2-1 Egypt
Uruguay 3-0 Russia
Spain 2-2 Morocco
Iran 1-1 Portugal
How the hell Spain have managed to top that group after their performances, I'll never know.
QUICK QUESTIONS FOR EVERYBODY
IF YOU WERE TO BET $10,000 ON THE WORLD CUP, WOULD YOU SELECT 3 TEAMS OR TAKE THE REST OF THE FIELD?
IF YOU SELECTED 3 TEAMS, WHO WOULD THEY BE?
IF YOU SELECTED 3 TEAMS WOULD YOU DO THE SAME BET IF YOU WERE ONLY GIVEN 2 TEAMS? IF SO, WHICH 2 TEAMS WOULD YOU SELECT?
I'd probably take the Field route since Germany, Brazil, and Argentina (my original favorites) appear to be vulnerable this year.
Wow, Portugal came VERY close to going out there - didn’t see that coming!
And to answer your question Hurricane, I wouldn’t want to bet on anyone in this tournament. (See above comment!) I don’t think there has been any team you could single out as a favourite yet. Or any way close.
So I’d take the “rest of the field” option.
I honestly can't call it this year.
It really could be any of the 16 that qualify (obvious statement). It's so open this year with the lesser known teams stepping up and the 'bigger' nations performing poorly.
I will say this, though.. this is the most exciting the World Cup has been since France 98, before that it was Italia 90 which was, obviously, heart-breaking for us England fans.
I'm in Lisbon. Place was crazy after 1st goal. Thought city was going to collapse when Iran went wide in the 95th minute.

That was huge from a TV perspective. Big difference in the Knockout Stage watching Portugal (w/ Renaldo) vs Uruguay then Iran vs Uruguay. The match will be televised on Saturday June 30 at 2pm which is definitely accommodating to the US fans here on the east coast.
.... I'll be at Lynch's Irish Pub (Jax Beach) for that match !!!
AND YES, I'M ENVIOUS THAT YOU'RE IN LISBON RIGHT NOW !!!

I think I am going to be in town Saturday. If I am I will make my way to Lynch's as well
Day 13:
France 0-0 Denmark (Zzzzzzzzzzzz)
Peru 2-0 Australia
Argentina 2-1 Nigeria
Iceland 1-2 Croatia
Argentina, Croatia, France & Denmark advance to the round of 16... Argentina are very lucky to still be in this.
Man, I was hoping Portugal and Argentina would get sent home but neither of those happened. Maybe I'll get better luck with Brazil.
Man, if the Germans lose or tie against Korea then they deserve to be out of World Cup. Man, that team sucks.
And that's the end of Germany, deservedly so.
Looking like a loss now
Wow all they had to do was get passed korea
If Brazil can get knocked out as well I'll be a happy man tonight.

If Serbia wins and the Swiss just do not lose then Brazil is out.
I would say it is impossible for coasta rica to beat the Swiss but this tourney has been full of surprises.
I really thought the Germans would win that one - that’s a big shock.
Although they haven’t been at their best they’ve looked nowhere near as disorganised as Argentina or some other sides that have struggled.
Shame, I’ve always had a respect for Germany and the well-organised style of football they play.
Well done to South Korea though!
Japan tied with Senegal in points and goals. Japan advances based on fair play points. No really, fair play points.

Bit of a head scratcher but It basically rewards the team who doesn't collect cards.
I'm leaving Lisbon and heading to Cabo Verde Africa tomorrow. They are a Portuguese speaking nation and former colony (and apparently big Portugal fans) so I guess I'm going to keep pulling for Portugal. I think that matchup with Uruguay will be a good match.
The World Cup is so fun here (Europe.) Everyone crowded around TV's in the city, jerseys everywhere. Good time.
Oh, and Lisbon = awesome. Highly recommended for those looking for a trip. Inexpensive, beautiful, great music. Wonderful city.

I am jealous. I just watched something on Lisbon. Looks amazing. I think Portugal will match up well against Uruguay. They will play into their scheme a little better than Iran does. Iran played the same style ball as Port( sit back, counter attack, keep the gam in front of you while not letting the opposition get in behind you.) I think this is why they struggled.
