He will discuss tonight on NFLNetwork's Mock Draft Central tonight at 8.

He has some unusual picks.
For example, his pick for the Jaguars is Jaire Alexander.
I can not speak to his mock drafting prowess. But he had his finger on the pulse of the Jaguars last year performance wise. Maybe he's onto something.
With them paying Hayden, I'm not so sure they take a DB in the first round. His mock for the Browns is also ridiculous.
I can see them picking up a CB in rounds 3 or later to provide backup, not Alexander in round 1. As mentioned above, they paid Hayden pretty well to fulfill the nickel.
I like what MJD did for the Browns. He had them pick up RB Barkley and DE Chubb, the 2 best players in this draft on each side of the ball, then has them move up to the end of the round to pick up QB Lamar Jackson. However, I don't see the Browns gamble that a decent QB is available at the end of the round.
I mean once I saw he picked Barkley first I can't take it serious. Love me some MJD, but that's just him showing love for RB.

And of course the UCLA QB is the first off the board....

True that lol!

Idk man. I've got a feeling that Rosen is gonna be a top 5 NFL qb for a long time. I don't think that's any UCLA bias there.

Nah, get the #1 and #2 ranked players. Got a decent bridge QB in tyrod to play a conservative offense and stout defense philosophy. Browns might be competitive immediately. Browns GM should go this route but he'll cave in to the owner and fan pressure to pick a QB at #1.
I doubt I would make that pick but Alexander is very good and at least he makes more sense than a first round Poz replacement. Nickel corner 70% snaps > base LB 30% snaps.
Spending a 1st rounder on a nickel? no thanks. Ramsey is the #1 for a long time and Bouye isn't going anywhere anytime soon... we can afford to take chances and risks with the nickel position. Love MJD, he is just trying to hard to be different.

This
I'd rather take a corner like Alexander than any other position bar interior.
A few players still on the board in round two of MJD's mock draft...
- Courtland Sutton
- Conner Williams
- Dallas Goedurt
- Leighton Vander Esch
- Mike Gesicki
- Mason Rudolph
- James Daniels
- Hayden Hurst
Note that Lamar Jackson went #32 so he would have been there for the Jaguars pick as well.
I have the same question with every mock draft- is this what you think will happen, or is this what you think should happen. I suspect MJD's mock draft is what he things should happen. These are the picks he would make if he was running the teams. I think.
In that light, his picks for the Browns make sense. They're taking the best players. If you look at the teams that made the conference championship games last year, only one had an elite QB. The rest were strong rosters. In the past, teams have been so desperate to land that fabled "elite QB" of which there are very few, that they have whiffed and whiffed and whiffed at that position, at the expense of all the other positions on the team. It's possible that teams will wise up and just try to build a great roster, and not blow so much draft capital taking home-run swings at the QB position.

I've long loved the idea of Lamar Jackson somehow going to the Browns because he's be the perfect backup to Tyrod Taylor.

...for about 6 games.

I was thinking of adding until he's ready to take over.

They can probably get Guice, Michel, Chubb, or a number of really good RB prospects in the 2nd round or moving back up in the first. Plus, they have one of the best pass-catching RBs in the league. Also, I'd rather have a bridge a RB than at QB. There's a big reason Cleveland has sucked for 20 years and that's because of no QB.
Now if they absolutely hate the top QBs in this draft, I can understand it, but I highly doubt it. Even if they did, they can probably trade the first pick of the draft for a good amount of draft picks and not just take a RB first overall.

"Taking over from Tyrod Taylor" is not a high bar to clear. The Bills tried to replace him with Peterman, for chrissakes.
I think if the Browns don't take a QB with either the 1st or the 4th pick in the draft, the fans will burn down the stadium. So, while MJD may have the right idea, it's probably not going to happen.

Honestly if I were the Browns I might make that move.
You gotta think Darnold or Rosen could be there at 4 still. Certainly Mayfield.
I really think Barkley could be the next dynamic RB that truly excels beyond his QB and OL play, much like Peterson did most of his career.
