They still do. Never stopped.

Stop letting facts get in the way of outrage.

We in public education are out only to undermine America and destroy it by intentionally forcing students to be disgusting liberals, and we're proud of it!

(Sarcasm, if that needs to be said [and on here, it definitely might])
For the pledge, this guy gets my point across:

I just think forced patriotism isn't really patriotism. I stand for the anthem live, but still think the entire act is a bit odd.
Has anyone ever eaten lunch at Mission BBQ? At high noon everyone stands with hand over heart while they play the national anthem. I feel silly doing it because it's all completely contrived, but is anyone NOT going to stand?

No we aren't and not they don't.

Can't hold a candle to Flower Of Scotland or Land of our fathers.

I am glad someone said it....

I don't think it gets better than God Save the Queen, in my book.

It is the perfect amount of national pride and capturing the national attitude.

Ours is ridiculous in so many ways......I am sad to say.  That being said, it can, and often does, send chills when it is done exceptionally well.

God Save the Queen? A song that exalts an individual as supreme and all others as mere subjects? Whatevs.

That must be sarcasm.

I actually listened to the words for the first time last year when the Jags played in London. "God Save the Queen" was the absolute stupidest anthem I've even heard.

Quote:God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen

That is beyond pathetic.
God save the queen
The fascist regime
They made you a moron
A potential H bomb
God save the queen
She's not a human being
and There's no future
And England's dreaming
Don't be told what you want
Don't be told what you need
There's no future
No future
No future for you
God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves
God save the queen
'Cause tourists are money
And our figurehead
Is not what she seems
Oh God save history
God save your mad parade
Oh Lord God have mercy
All crimes are paid
Oh when there's no future
How can there be sin
We're the flowers
In the dustbin
We're the poison
In your human machine
We're the future
Your future
God save the queen
We mean it man
We love our queen
God saves
God save the queen
We mean it man
There's no future
In England's dreaming God save the queen
No future
No future
No future for you
No future
No future
No future for me
No future
No future
No future for you

Either way the Brits belt out the anthem way better than Americans. Maybe you guys need stronger beer.
I am going to say that any American that does not respect or understand the poem that Francis Scott Key wrote under the circumstances that he wrote them in did not have a very good history teacher. The fact that that poem was attached to the tune of an English drinking song makes it truly American. Revisionist history be damned.

We don't sing that part.

Stanza 1: Did we win?

Stanza 2: Hey, we won!

Stanza 3: Of course we won!  You suck, Brits!

Stanza 4: We're always gonna win because God loves us best!

I miss Whitney.

Would have been more impressive if she actually sang it live.

She didn’t?

It's different because people can't see you.

The ONLY reason I do it at live events is because if I didn't everyone would stare at me and have something to say. They'd lump me in with ol Kap.
If it's good enough for live events you can do it at your house. lol

I think it's a silly really old tradition. Hats on, hats off... hand over heart... salute, don't salute... stupid song...
but hey... it is what it is. When I go to a game, I'll appease the masses. But if they stop doing the national anthem at live events I would be way OK with it.

It isn't a disrespect the military thing. Hell, I'm all about 'Merica!
I just find things like the pledge and anthem to be silly weird traditions that are used as political talking points more than anything.
George Carlin was the best at tearing crap like that down and making it funny.
