61 years old. Pretty shocked this morning when I saw this. I knew he had some ups and downs with substance abuse. But he seemed like he had everything under control.
Yeesh. RIP, Anthony.
That was a shocker.   Thought he had the near-perfect life with respect being paid to travel and eat.
This one hits real hard. Getting hooked on Parts Unknown years back got me hooked on learning about and trying new foods and by extensions the culture and history behind the dishes and the people who create them. He seemed like someone who really understood what it meant to be human and be truly alive in a world that sometimes seems so sad and insular. Like most people, Anthony was a flawed person but he tried to teach people to not fear the unknown whether that be a country, it's people, or it's cuisine. He is going to be sorely missed. I feel for his family.
Woah
Had an 11 year old daughter. Sad
I've never really seen his show but he seemed like a cool guy. RIP.
I lived about 8 blocks from one of his restaurants in NYC for a couple of years at one point. This was shortly after 9/11 and it was not far from the trade center site. I lived down there because they were giving away $3000 per month apartments for $1200 and no one wanted to live there at the time.
Most businesses and restaurants closed up shop after happy hour and the area became a ghost town by 8pm.

Bourdain's joint stayed open till ten every night and later on Fridays. I had dozens of meals sitting solo at the bar there during that span and he'd pop in from time to time.

It's a real shame he felt he couldn't go on. He had a unique voice in the "foodie" world and was one of the originals to take food and travel writing and tv outside the box of the Martha Stewart and Julia Child mold.
Love that show. As really thoughts and prayers are with those family members of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. Get help as it is available. As you are not alone. For you or someone you know has thoughts.
